I saw a post about dry nutes on top of soil but I don’t want to risk over feeding

I would think that would happen some but I’ve packed soil over the top at least twice and the roots started showing

I should’ve took pictures but when I transplanted I overfilled a 10 gallon fabric pot and 3 in 5 gallons since going into 12/12 I’ve noticed the soil dissolved so much that the roots started to show so I packed some soil on top and now it looks like I didn’t add that much anyone know why this...
