    Water chiller

I should qualify this by saying I'm still a DWC noob, so don't take my word as verbatim... I'm just about to flip to flower and it's a steep learning curve. I've had major issues with bacterial growth and sludge/slime takes a lot of effort to clean up... prevention is better than cure as they...

    Water chiller

pretty much.. just run it with plain water and see what happens,, tempertaure wise, it's pretty critical the water doesnt get above 19/20c. I'd maybe add a glug of bleach/ peroxide too, just to make sure its all nice and clean. Mosst of my headaches have come from contaminates in the water.

    Water chiller

Good point-- it's an expensive system and it looks from the stock photo to have white/reflective buckets anyway, rather than black plasic which loves to soak up heat. Can you do a dry run and just measure the water temps? I wouldn't go crazy buyin heaters and chillers unless you already know...

    Water chiller

hahaha yeah I've got the same issue, that said, insulation or reflective tape will help to stabalise the water temp so it wan't heat up too fast, or cool down too fast either

    Water chiller

I just used aluminium tape on the top of mine, it seems to have made a good difference. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aluminium-Temporary-Exhaust-material-ventilation/dp/B018KEHB22/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2R4AWER9KKI6J&keywords=aluminium+tape&qid=1669323043&sprefix=alum%2Caps%2C76&sr=8-5 Whether you need...

    Water chiller

Yes that's the idea. The unit itself will use a tiny bit of power for the LCD screen and temp sensors, but it won't kick in until the water gets too warm, and once the water is cooled, it will pretty much go to sleep again.

    Water chiller

If it's any way decent, it won't use any power other than temp sensors, and it will only start chilling the water if the temp rises above what you set the target temp at. You do need to run the pump 24/7 through the chiller though, so it knows how hot or cold your water is, so whilst it's always...

    Water chiller

Haliea do 3 sizes, the smallest one 100amp (dunno what that is in horsepower lol) says its suitable for 4-8 pots r-DWC. You'll have to buy an inline filter, pump and hoses though. as it just comes as the plain unit. They are not cheap, but you set the water temp so they basically switch off, or...

Day 51 ok so the plants look good, topped and now SCROG/LST'ing. Roots look really good too, but im still getting some scum in my rez creeping back. I'm using a regualr dose of peroxide/siver ion solution which I guess is keeping the rot away from the roots. as all round growth is really fast...

Is this the beggining of root rot?

Starting DCW from seed in clay pellets?

Ahh sorry I missed that bit.. Im not sure in that case, I was asssuming the seed was in a cube which will also hold some moisture,, the balls will hold a bit of moisture but you might need to be carefull there that they stay damp enough.

5 gallon vs 8 gallon bucket pros and cons?

for example, my tent foot print is 1x1 meter, and 1.8 meter high... a 2 meter high tent would allow me a bit more space, as the buckets, light and filter take up a lot of space, so my vertical grow height is pretty much limited to 1m.

5 gallon vs 8 gallon bucket pros and cons?

good question, access for removing dead/low leafs etc, might be difficult if you're in a small space, so think about that.. but if your foot-print is 6x6 foot, you have a lot of space to play with, assuming you have about 6 foot height too.

Starting DCW from seed in clay pellets?

If you get your water levels right, as in just below the bottom of the net pots, like half an inch/ 1 inch or there abouts. you don't need to water from above. The clay pebbles will get splashed with little darts of water jets from the air stones firing up from the surface of the water. This is...

Starting DCW from seed in clay pellets?

I started mine off in the traditional paper towel method. Once the seeds popped I very gently put them in root riot cubes I'm guessing they are basically the same thing as rapid rooters, they hold moisture but also allow drainage if you over-saturate them. watered with plain water at first and...

5 gallon vs 8 gallon bucket pros and cons?

bigger is better depending on how much space you have - makes for a more stable solution in terms of nute stregnth, PH, and temperature.

Light intensity and topping sanity check?

Just realizsed I must have turned the LED light (300w) back up from 20% to 40% so they are on about 140w per sq meter at the moment, so about 50w per square foot? they seem to be doing good.

Light intensity and topping sanity check?

yeah, thre is a standard golf ball blue an Air stone directly under each pot, so i'm guesing that explains the spreading of the roots.
