    Bridgelux Vero 29 LED Test

For the spread, if they where a lot closer then there would be a lot of branches missing out. These lights are so powerful even being that far away, 3-4 feet is in that bright zone where you get heaps and heaps of crystals.

Why are they colored like that?

    Bridgelux Vero 29 LED Test

Started the germination of 29 new seeds on Sunday. Using an incubation method that utilizes an aquarium heater set at 78 degrees F that warms the water in the larger container that the seed container floats around in. No sprouts yet...

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

Linear power supplies can dim to zero, no problem. Switching PSU can be damaged with no load.

    I should start updating that again. Going to start these seeds soon;

Still clear and pushing more and more crystals. Starting to smell really nice and super sticky!

Thats because you are going from 12 volt down to 3.3 volt, thats a big difference. There is no AC switching in a linear power supply.

Its the voltage is switching, not the current. Also well designed linear low dropout regulators can actually be more efficient than switched* *http://cds.linear.com/docs/en/application-note/AN140fa.pdf

Trust me, they are PWM dimming. If you don't call mean well and talk to one of their engineers. I am not interested in just going back and forth on such trivial and really just elementary electronic issues. Look at the diagram and point out in what box this resistance dimming would happen...

You do realize its always PWM dimming, its just the control is either through an external PWM signal or a simple pot. There is no voltage/current regulator after the final rectifiers. OLP is just the over load protection.

That's cool. They are far too noisy to be used for any radio or audio applications. I wouldn't want a room full of these in my house pouring all that noise into my clean AC. I would take the big guns and go with the Vero 29's and linear PSUs. I could build a PSU at 80 to 85% efficiency no...

You are right I should have said switching power supply, with or without PWM. When building analog circuits I try not to use any high frequency switching, I try to not even use a single Diode in my designs!

    Vero 29 LED

Well, I don't pay for power so the efficiency isn't one of my top priorities. I want the best quality of light for my babies. There is something special for me about running power through a nice transformer. I don't see why in the audio world, tube amps with their fat sound due to large...

    Vero 29 LED

I guess let me put it like this. 99% of everyone powering LED's of the AC wall power uses a PWM power supply. To keep it simple these power supplies run at very high frequencies which mean you can use very small parts to convert AC wall power for the LED's. More traditional power supplies use...

    Vero 29 LED

I suppose but most of the heat of emitted into the LED's metal backing plate, that's the nice thing about these high power LED's the front of the LED is only outputting light. The heat wants to travel through the lowest possible resistance and the metal plate the chips are grafted to provide a...

    Vero 29 LED

I don't think you would need to worry about a failure at 100 or even 150 watts, I've been running mine at about 120 watts for about 2 years with no problem. @rollyouron if you are serous I can build a panel for you with a true DC power source with a custom PCB. Non of this switching BS and...

I wouldn't put optics in front of the Vero 29 unless they are super super clear. To much of the good infrared light would be lost I think. How big is the space you would like to grow in?
