experimental - grow box build in planning

I would find somewhere else or skip the idea until you have a suitable space. I know it's not what you want to hear but the obstacles are massive! Charging up battery packs every day for a whole 3 months+... running fans and a carbon filter off batteries... the thought of it is giving me a...

    New RDWC DIY

Yeah, first time I just went for it as fast as I could. Loads of pressure and had the speed cranked up to get the job done ASAP. Regretted it! I examined the buckets to find the leaking points and then took it all apart... found the tiny gouges. With rubber grommets they need to be perfect. I...

    New RDWC DIY

Hi, The reason you're getting leaks is because your holes are not perfect circles. Any slight irregularity in shape will cause a leak. I built a similar 16 site RDWC with rubber grommets and drilled holes in the plastic with flat wood drill bits. Out of 16 buckets... 5 had small leaks and I...

    What's wrong with my plant?

It's droopy because the stem isn't very strong yet and it's been stretching to find the light. There's nothing wrong with it. If you were growing with artificial lights inside, you could get the light closer and put a gentle fan on it to get it swaying in the wind which strengthens the stem...

New Loft Grow Room - Input Appreciated

Thanks for the input. Yeah, this is a bit of a pain... but I feel confident things are under control. I'll give the tea 2 weeks from now and reassess. Here's a side by side 36 hour comparison of what just sterilisation has done for me before adding bennies: As you can see new roots are...

New Loft Grow Room - Input Appreciated

So yesterday I noticed some more slime had grown on the rubber grommets in some buckets. Not a lot but enough for me to notice as I know exactly where to look. Roots have made a recovery in that they are not brown or mushy but they don't seem to be growing particularly fast. So what to do? Well...

Can you believe the British weather? I bought an AC thinking we'll be having a heat wave... Woke up this morning... It's been snowing overnight and everything is white!

    co2 in water?

Co2 is used in aquariums to keep the pH down. The co2 dissolves in water to become carbonic acid. It is gentler to the fish than dropping in loads of concentrated acid and waiting for it to mix up. That is not what you want in hydroponics! The roots don't use co2.

New Loft Grow Room - Input Appreciated

I'm on day 13 now. So here's a 2 week update... After scrubbing the whole system yesterday and loading up the UV filter, Ozone and Hypoclorite the plants are probably quite stressed. They had their roots dangling in the air for about 2 hours so there's obviously been a little drying. So far...

New Loft Grow Room - Input Appreciated

It will look something like this: But that's what most houses look like anyway. There's nothing to be worried about at 25C. It will look normal compared to the neighbours. Have a look at this story...

New Loft Grow Room - Input Appreciated

Windows will be fine at 25C. Don't worry about insulating them. Loads of people have their house temps set at 25C anyway. I insulated my loft because it would be giving off loads of heat if completely uninsulated. My insulation isn't even up to official building standards in the UK but it's...

New Loft Grow Room - Input Appreciated

FLIR can definitely detect window temps. It can't see temps through windows but it picks up the window surface temp. I've read everything possible on root rot and slime. Every mega thread on every forum on teas, sterilisers etc. I've even read everything I could find on fish forums. I've...

Timers that can do 5mins off 2 on???

I did some research on these a while back. I think you have 3 options: 1. Canaponics timer - approx $35 - I have one and it failed quite quickly with a light load (always off now)... so can't personally recommend them but maybe I was just unlucky? 2. "ADTV-Y relay" with "ANLY Socket" - wiring...

New Loft Grow Room - Input Appreciated

Arrrrggghhh I have brown algae. Realised on Monday night that one of the Viper Cookes and one of the Pineapple Express looked stunted compared to the rest. Checked out their roots and there was a small brown patch on the Pineapple Express. Because the containers are black it was difficult to see...

    Electrical outlets shutting down?

You must be close to the limits of the circuit. Does it say anywhere on the circuit breaker box what the circuits are rated at (might say 15 or 20A)? Apparently US household circuits are typically 15A 110V (1650W) or 20A 110V (2200W) and sometimes you have a seperate 240V dryer circuit? Those...

    Doubts about electrical consuption

Check your electricity bill. That'll tell you how much electricity you use over a period of time. Alternatively take a meter reading. It should be in kWh (kilowatt hours). Check it again at the same time the next day (or even better in a week) and you'll see how much electricity you use...

DIY stealth cabinet grow...powering PC fan controller?

Forget the controller. Way too complicated as you need a PSU for the controller and then you need to hack the controller apart to make it work without a motherboard... you might as well just hook them up direct to the PSU. USB runs on 5V and the other PC fans need 12V. Cheapest way to do this...

    Best set up.

Too hot for that small space. 4ft by 2ft is 8 square ft. 400w would be ideal.

Do grow lights loose brightness with extension cords?

Nah you're right too. Wire has resistance and heats up in itself just by conducting electricity. Coiled wires can heat up to the point of being dangerous if they have heavy loads going through them.
