You don't need airstones or need to oxygenate in any way. Your roots should not be siting in a waterlogged deoxygenated state with flood and drain. I've grown millions and millions of plants with flood and drain. Super easy and fairly simple process. Don't overthink and complicate it.

Recently started a grow again after about 8-9 yrs off. Put some new batteries in it and fired right up. Calibration still good. So been a solid investment.

Not convinced you have Pythium there. A tell tale sign of Pythium is sloughing off of the roots. The outer cortex of the root will rub off in essence leaving the inner cortex of the root if that makes sense. Outer area will be slimy and mushy.

I wouldn't worry about it that much. Problem should resolve over 2-3 days likely. If it keeps continuing there might be an issue near area of the tent.

I see no indications of viral issues either. Even when it does potentially pop up you cant really go oh that's a virus. You cant really self diagnose it very well. You have to send it off to a lab to be tested. I've sent off many samples back in the day. Even when it looked viral in appearance...

I'm not convinced its thrips but, it doesn't look indicative of powdery mildew. Picture isn't super clear so its hard to tell. Light infestation of spider mites you wont see webbing. Adults you can see with the naked eye. You'll need a loup to see the eggs.
