    CXB 3590 3500K build questions

Yes. Basically, all the other configurations are going to have a center 'hot spot' of light intensity that degrades towards the perimeter of the foot print. Spacing the chips correctly would provide extremely even coverage from this layout, keeping PPFD uniformity in mind. The idea is that...

Are Cob lights ideal for veg and flower?

I thought COB's didn't have any Far Red in their spectrum........ Sorry, who is in denial?? Edit: According to the charts I posted, 3000K 80 CRI has about 12-13% at the beginning of the Far Red spectrum (710nm according to wikipedia) and dwindles down to about 7% around the 740nm wavelength...

Best Spectrums for Each Stage of Growth

Haven't personally tried it yet, but 3000K 90 CRI looks to be the most productive spectrum on paper, IMO.

Are Cob lights ideal for veg and flower?

My eyes work just fine man. You are the one in denial about the graphs as I've clearly shown you don't understand them. Here is a pic from the back of the box that I'm holding right now. Not some shitty out of focus graph. Do I need to pull out the ruler?

Are Cob lights ideal for veg and flower?

Yep. Even less Far Red than 3000k COB. Unless you were referring to the infrared past 780nm?

Are Cob lights ideal for veg and flower?

Yep I did take chemistry. Did you take grade school math? Did you know that Metric and Imperial can both be converted to a percentage? A like measurement of total values? If you could comprehend the Hortilux article that you cited, you would understand that you are on both sides of the same...

Are Cob lights ideal for veg and flower?

:wall::wall::wall: Try pretending that instead of the COB SPD being in measured in watts (which is irrelevant to spectrum), that the peak is 100% Relative Intensity. What has changed?? Now can we compare the spectrums? Couldn't agree more. Intensity has nothing to do with the spectrum...

    Light Intensity; LED vs HID

Well they tested wavelengths all the way up to 780nm (with many different instruments), where photosynthesis was no longer stimulated. The far red wavlengths increased the total amount of red wavelengths that could be synthesized. Without far red, photosynthetic efficiency of 650nm wavelength...

    Light Intensity; LED vs HID

I'm aware of the Kessil H380's spectral analysis. My point was that oversaturation of red light can cause photoinhibition i.e. having your Kessil too close to the canopy. There is also very little (if any) far red wavelengths and this will effect the maximum quantum yield of photosynthesis...

    Light Intensity; LED vs HID

How much light within the red spectrum can a plant absorb? The photosynthetic maximum? In absence of other colors? Wattage has nothing to do with Photon Flux btw...

    Light Intensity; LED vs HID

Light intensity is an issue if the leaf temps are too high or too low. The factors that affect photosynthesis are pretty well documented.

    High CRI 90+ vs. Efficacy

Judging by that picture, the high CRI still seems to be the best choice of spectrum. Now that I have some real world experience with these chips, delivering enough photons to the canopy with COB's is of no concern. It's actually exceptionally easy to do. Might as well pick the best color recipe...

    Mau5Capades: builds & grow journal

@Growmau5 regarding your fixture.. Have you considered using wider angle optics for your center lights, while keeping your narrow optics on the outside of the fixture? It may help to alleviate the light density in the the center of the footprint. Awesome fixture man, you are always killing it.
