Reflectivity test (as photons are expensive).

Didn't know this existed but would love to test it. Although it seems almost impossible for the average Joe to acquire. Please drop a message here again if you're ever able to get your hands on some :-)

Reflectivity test (as photons are expensive).

Thanks for the feedback ;-) We've learned that some want the answers as quickly as possible while others want to understand the full process and every detail. Hopefully, this format provides the best of two worlds. Have a great weekend!

Reflectivity test (as photons are expensive).

Hi guys! We just made a short video where we test the reflectivity of different materials commonly used in DIY grow spaces. Enjoy!

    Window sill grow

PPFD maps are indeed super handy as light intensity can be more or less impossible to estimate with our eyes. Keep in mind that while removing the translucent cover increase light output and make it more direct, it will also expose conductive parts on the lamp. Oftentimes, cheap lamps don't have...

    Window sill grow

I've measured the light footprint of a couple of different household bulbs. How large lamp are you using (wattage & lumen)? Here's how a typical 1500lm bulb performs without a reflector, at a couple of different distances. PS. all distances are from the white rim on the bulb and not the end of...

    Lighting upgrade 2x300w or 1x450w

Do you have a link to your current lamp? That would help a lot. 450w would be way overkill if it is 450 actual watts and good LEDs. With good LEDs, you shouldn't need much more than 35w/sqft to reach high light levels and grow good bud. 2.5 x 2.5 = 6.25 sqft 6.25 x 35w = 218w total. We just...

Anyone grow with only high Kelvin LEDs? (6500K+, etc) - If so, what's your experience?

Don't get too hung up on kelvin. 6500k sunlight and 6500k LED is not the same. Human eyes may perceive them as somewhat similar in some contexts, but plants won't. I'm not saying it won't grow plants, I'm just saying that you probably won't get "sunlight" results with 6500k LED.

    PPFD seems wrong

Our Q7 lamp is using the same diodes and is operating with roughly the same efficacy (2.55 µmol/J). We have measured it in several different grow spaces that result in different w/sqft. You can have a look at the PPFD maps on our website to get an idea of what PPFD to expect from different...

    PPFD seems wrong

While sunlight is nowhere near the spectrum you have indoors, you can calibrate your LUXmeter against sunlight with Apogees' calibration tool. Sunlight is supposed to convert with factor 54. If your meter is way off in sunlight, there's a good chance it'll be way of indoors too. Hope this...

    LED light question (HLG)

I'm not sure what exact driver you have, ddeck, but you can find the specifications for your driver on google. Here's a screenshot of the expected lifetime VS case temperature for a random 600w inventronics driver. It's also difficult to say what exact temperature your driver will reach as it...

    LED light question (HLG)

That's probably wise. Your tent won't catch fire but a shorter distance between lamp and tent can allow for heat to build up. Built-up heat will in turn heat the lamp and can potentially decrease the efficacy and lifespan of both the driver and the diodes. While we all experience temperature a...

    Ppfd problems.

Sweet! I don't know what causes the drooping, unfortunately. We should be able to find some good information by searching for information related to Photoinhibition and/or Photosystem II. You probably already know this, but Researchgate is a great place to search for this type of info. Here is...

+ 1200ppfd is it bad for ure plants

A handy tool that not everyone knows about is the clear sky calculator. It is a digital tool developed by Apogee where we can see the light intensity pretty much anywhere on the planet, any time of the year and at any time of the day. It was developed so that their customers can calibrate their...

    Ppfd problems.

Photosynthesis can become light-saturated and plants can dissipate excess photons as heat, rather than use them for photosynthesis. Where the saturation point is reached depends on many different factors. It differs between plant species, between strains within the same species and to some...

    Light intensity question.

One of the easiest ways to find out is to buy a power meter (Kill A Watt). If you're wondering about efficacy gain from dimming, generally, dimming the lamp to 50% power consumption will result in a couple percent more light per watt. Example (made up numbers): If it produces 1000 PPFD at a...

Mars hydro vs other LED’s with samsung diodes

This video might help a little and give some clarity in the jungle of LED grow lights: I also recently posted some good tips here. What to look for and why: https://www.rollitup.org/t/is-it-better-to-use-2-of-spider-farms-sf1000-or-1-of-the-sf2000-with-coverage-being-equal.1046564/

    LED Gurus please help

Thanks for the shout-out, Rolla! Our Q2 is indeed a bit smaller than most lights, pulling 36w from the wall. It isn't dimmable but has a great light spread and can be as close as 3.5-4" above canopy during flowering, just touching 1000 PPFD in the center spot. Although, 2-3 Q2 lamps would be...

Why am I always struggling fighting temps. Doing everything right.

The lamp you linked above seems to draw 200 watts each. 400 watts in total is a lot in that grow space both in terms of light but also in terms of heat. (for most growers) With good LEDs (~2.5 µmol/J), you'll want around 20w/sqft as a minimum and 35w/sqft being close to the upper end. 2.5x1.5'...

    Tent size

One thing to consider is the importance of matching a lamp with your tent. Tents are cheap and going one size up won't cost much more. However, covering that extra area with light will require a lot more watts to reach the same intensity you're getting in a smaller tent. We just had an article...
