I explained in a previous post what to do before using your medium to kill larvae and eggs. Athena IPM or Lost Coast Plant Therapy (very expensive) are the handful of insecticides that you can use to do a soil soak.

I see what you mean but the leaves definitely have thrip damage. They could be a bigger species of thrip tho. I also had the tiny custard yellow ones that you mentioned. Those are definitely not the same but the damage is very similar.
