1000W HPS or 6500K CFL'S for vegging

well to be honest with you i insure 100% fems by cloning so I neednt bother but its still not true

Thought you were avoiding a pissfest, i just said your statements untrue and thats my opinion, i also said i wouldnt try to change yours and i havent, I havent pulled any pics out to show who's "boss"
 
nongreen, i got nuthin but luv for ya, swear to god. i just felt a little insulted, and had to protect my cubs. i do not lie; i do use mh in veg, the pic shows that. and, the pix are here to dispute the following.

I also use mh during veg, but mh has red in it plus some other colours too, the colour temp of mh is generally between 4 and 5k, ive got a 6400k 250w cfl also that i alternate with the mh this give off more blue light than a mh and from what ive read on videomans posts about this and dutch passions take i should get more fem with the 6400k, I havent noticed any difference to be honest, last seedlings i grew are currently in flower, used mainly with mh with the cfl occasionally on hotter days to keep the temps down. The last grow i germinated 20, 10 white rhino and 10 snow white, im flowering 6 fems out of that and i didnt use hps and my rh was fine and the temps were within the range, I dont doubt you can grow and i never said you couldnt, i just dont believe that you can alter the sex, if you could then it would be the standard way of growing

kp, I think there must have been something else going on causing your m/f ratio to skew toward males.

I've always used HPS on my younguns, at least after they were big enough to leave my clone/seedling box (usually when they are on their 3rd set of true leaves post sprouting, maybe at 2.5-3 wks post sprout). The clonebox has common 24", 18W coolwhite flos. My veg area has a 400HPS. I don't think I ever saw greater than 50% males, spot on the average.

to be completely honest guys, i think temps are the biggest factor; ever since moving the veg room to the basement (average temps 60-65f) i've had great luck.

as a side note; i read (either in greg's book or jorge's) that sex is determined three weeks after germination. obviously, they don't show at that point, but this may be why some of you havent had the hps probs i had; i noticed that al b vegged beanlings under cool spec for about three weeks...

i used hps from the rip on several runs. no starter lights, they came up under the 400w. my temps were around 73-80f on average, so once again, temps were variable....

i'll be doing more experiments.

Yeah dude It's funny you happened to mention this but I am recently in my third week of flowering WW and NL. I started out with 15 seedlings and I am currently left with 11 females out of 15. My point is I used a 1000hps hortiflux light through the entire process so I am definatly callin BULLSHIT on your opinion or if you happen to think what you said is fact:peace:

and how many grows do you have to back you up there sweetie?
 
i think what we have here is more than opinion. from what i'm reading there is actually grow experience. i am doing something in my veg room but i don't know what. out of 20 seedlings i've killed 3 males so far. these were all different seeds from different strains.
so how can you believe something written in a book or online? isn't that what all you people are doing. typing out a bunch of opinions. has anyone compared the two types of lighting? sounds like KP is the only one whose come close. if a book written by a well known author proves nothing then please tell me what does.

what she is saying is true. i've heard it all before more than once. if you disagree than do something different.

how many babies? what is the size of your grow space? CFLs will give you nicer vegetative growth then the HPS. it will take longer though. if you have the time i would veg with the CFLs and flower with the HPS.

if i had a choice i would trash ALL my CFL's and switch to MH. i will be doing this soon. i have some major changes in the works.
