1000w hps vs 500 true wats led?

Why dont they sell an 800w hps version/model or add it to the dimmable 1000w ballasts because sometimes a 1000w is just a touch too much but a 600w not quite enough. The hps could use even increments of 150/200w and start really competing again.
They make a 750 and most ballasts will run at 750

single end

double end

Top brands like hortilux and ushio dont make 750s. You could always run your 1000w bulb at 750w or even boosted 10-15% making it just over 800w too.

Or run a 600w and supplement with one of these

Those are pretty badass leds but im still thinking they are a bit small for a 2x2 footprint but i could be wrong. A 1000w hps is sort of ideal for a 4x4 if the heat isnt an issue. If it is an issue which typically it is, go with led.

These are the lights a lot of LED guys are drooling on right now.

CLOSE but, missed it by >< that much!

Look for the V3's with the newer Lm301H Samsung LED's - Higher umal output!
There are custom builders out there who will build you a better board then HLG AND use the same components, from the same source's.....
He charges about $500 vs HLG's $850.

Why pay for a name? Same parts, same warranty...... Save a few bucks...

You can step that up to a 600w uniy with 50% more LED's and delivers the equal to a 1K DE....

Just need a full unit proper dimming no turning off and on, digi readout led screen with programable presetss, waterproof to a depth of four foot, 100w to 1000w in 50w increments, indestructable bulb and a reflector material that dosent heat up so much.

Hps or even cmh could do better in my opinion.

Without me doing a web search (tho I will), can you recommend someone building these V3's?

I think this has been covered to death, it might change it a little but high wattage ensures its pretty similar. Low watt leds suffer more than high watt stuff.

Not 100% positive but I believe when one dims an HID, it mucks with the light spectrum.

I sent you a PM on this.

For the rest of you.... I will be adding his information and how to get these boards, as I unpack them and set them up with some pic's and a new thread.
I will be doing a side by side half room of THESE LED boards vs 1K HID's - Half the room LED and Half the room 1K's

The LED half will have a name brand HLG Lm3012B chip set board in their to see if they are any different then the custom built Lm3021H boards.

If you want to really crush it you could throw a 3rd HLG into the mix. Can really get close to 2lb/light with these if you know what you're doing and have good genetics
do you run those full blast , 480 ? are there any good reasons to not run full blast ? Lastly , do you HAVE to slam those lights on top of the canopy , or can they be up a couple foot ? Thanks man , i know the info is alreay here but i cant seem to find the answers IM looking for .....you have helped tremendously !

I run them full blast only in flower, for veg I go to about 50%. I run a 18/6 cycle for veg so I can use 50% less light intensity compared to flower, but still achieving the same DLI. The lights are about 2'-2.5' above the canopy and I'm still hitting around 1100 PPFD. They are very powerful and efficient lights for a great price. The only better design would be the lights than use multiple strips attached to one fixture (Check out the Scynce LED Raging Kush for example). Those style lights have a more uniform light spread compared to the HLG, but if you have the grooming skills combined with a SCROG, you can get the same performance from a HLG for 1/2 the price
