12/12 from seed?

Until I started visiting this site regularly, I had never hear of anything so ridiculous as going 12/12 from seed!!!
What moron decided to spread this information???
I have a feeling this BAD information is spread by people wanting to appear to be clever when in fact they are nothing more than, well, you choose the adjective after reading more.

Why ridiculous and moronic?
Ok, Yes, you can go 12/12 from seed but SHOULD YOU? NEVER
Heres why.
Plants grow by a process called photosynthesis, this needs 3 elements, CO2, water and LIGHT. Reduce the available light and you reduce its potential for growth. A plant can and will grow without a dark period, so its avalable light time is 24/0. By going 12/12 from seed, you are halving the available light, therefore, halving the potential for growth.
This will also cause the plant to stretch in search of light, which many new growers mistake for growth.
Real growth is numbers of internodes. 2" between nodes and potential bud sites is stretch, dont mistake this for growth.

A plant CANNOT flower UNTIL it reaches sexual maturity, FACT.
Sexual maturity is signified by pre-flowers but more importantly ALTERNATING NODES. Until these appear, your plant CANNOT flower. Therefore, by giving your plant 12/12 from seed, this could be 6-8 weeks of half the light it could have had. Effectively HALVING the potential bud sites.
Alternating nodes- While a plant grows, branches grow from the main stem in opposite pairs ( like "Y"), once sexual maturity occurs, the plant will produce a branch to one side, then the other with a space in betweern like "r".
I wont go into detail about preflowers since there is already exhaustive information on those on this site.

If we put it this way, if I asked do you want half the bud this plant is capable of producing, would you go for it? WOULD YOU HELL!!! So, DO NOT GO 12/12 from seed.
Apologies if I sound harsh but this is a message new growers need to hear.

so what about plants growing at the equator?year round they get 12/12 or close. if you start a plant at 12/12,it will switch to flowering when it is mature enough to do so.I dont but it is a a viable technique.

I'm new to growing myself, and I've thought about this many times after hearing about it and basically it seems like the thing to do for commercial growers who want to crop quickly or maybe for a medi-grow for someone who needs it faster. But then agian thats just about the same amount of light a plant would recieve naturally outdoors I'm gonna try both methods-because you don't live until you try everything once...except meth. lol Seriouslycv

I think you missed the point totally here!
MrMad, I am talking about artificial environment grows indoors with artificial lighting. Do you live on the equator and grow outdoors? Didnt think so.
Del, commercial growers in 3rd world countries growing outdoors have no option. If you ask any serious commercial grower who grows indoors, they mostly grow from clones so they can go 12/12 but I doubt they will. 12/12 from seed speeds up NOTHING, it reduces yield!
A commercial grower wants the best results from the resources available. Halving their potential yield is not an option.
As for doing both methods, I applaud your desire to experiment however if you do both methods, it will have to be side by side since you will dial in the space as your experience and knowledge increases. I am confident as your knowledge increases you will laugh at people who do 12/12 from seed.

Any other doubter out there, experiment with this yourselves. 2 grows, identical conditions, same strain of seeds. Those germed, vegged & grown with 24 hours light will produce more bud. If you calculate back the bud per $W costs, it is an even greater differential since growth is exponential and not straight line.

12-12 was only the standard flowering time given so that all strains from no matter what region they originate from will flower under that light period
the amount of critical darkness needed to induce flowering can be as little as 9.5 hours for some indica strains rather than the standard 12 hours of darkness

growing larger sativa strains 12-12 from seed is advised as one of the methods to help control the height of of the plant and keep it more manageable

i often notice pre-flowers while plants are growing in veg, at around 5 weeks onward

i think weather you give them 12-12 from seed would depend on what the strain is .. if it was a haze strain that was expected to get very big it might be a good idea to do this

there are lots of threads around on this subject most of them lean towards giving the seed atleast 1-2 weeks of veg, if its an indica dom strain
or the plant will be small and yield much less .. i normally veg mine for at least 4 weeks

There is some evidence that shows that 24/0 light cycles provide less growth than those with dark cycles of at least 4 to 6 hours. So your notion that plants grow best with 24/0 and 12/12 is half the growth is unsubstantiated.

Think of all the people growing, and all the different setups people have going. Each grower sets up a room/schedule based on what's good for them.

I used to hate all the paper towel to germ threads. Thinking along the same lines of 'new growers will think this is what they HAVE to do to start a plant.'

Then like the flip of a switch I'm over it. Why do you care how other people run their grow ops? Are you still going to be growing quality medicine regardless of how the guy down the road is running his room?

What about the guy with a pc micro grow. I would imagine 12/12 from seed would be best for him.

Just another perspective :eyesmoke:

Anyone with any doubts on 12/12 from seed should check out del's signature thread, he has been posting about it for a long time now, and has gotten many people to join in and do the same thing with great results. I too throw a random couple plants into 12/12 from time to time, actually have 5 plants right now doing 12/12 along with my other regular grows.

it is a very real method, with very real result,s with very real smokeable bud.

This is one of the single worse posts I have read in sometime. Wood you are obviously not qualified to make such a ridiculous string of statements....
