18/6 vs 24/0...what is best? Growing Afghan Kush.

First grow, and want to make sure when I get my seeds that everything works out as planned, so looking for a little insight here.

Seems as if either will work but does anyone have any preferences? I am going to be vegging for 4 weeks and then flowering from there hopefully, in case that makes a difference.

Thanks for the help!

the usual method is to go the first 2 weeks or so of growth in 24/0 light and switch over to 18/6 after that for about 2 months then switch to flowering at 12/12.
i have heard from a few people that have tried 24 all the way to flowering and they say its a good way to keep your plants small and when you do start flowering it kinda lags, or takes a little bit to start flowering, like about 2 weeks. after that 2 weeks they say it was fully into the flowering and blew up.

if you feel up for it and have the resources i would say go for the 24/0 all the way through 2 or 2.5 months then switch to flowering at 12/12.

Yeah I kind of want to get my first grow done with quick so I can get some bud, which is why I only want to veg for 4-5 weeks. I was reading some other posts about someone getting like 1.5oz per plant with only vegging for 4 weeks which seems fine to me.

So should I start off 24/0 for the first week or so and then 18/6 for 3 weeks, and then flower at 12/12?

But does 24/0 produce higher yield if I were to do that straight for 5 weeks?

Thanks for the help!

i think for the lower veging time you would have to go with 24/0 for the firtst week then 18/6 like you said and then flower it out after 5 weeks at 12/12. the flowering is going to take about 9 weeks no matter what tho.

what kind of lighting do you have?

Hi ya, I'm doing 24 hour straight lighting with 2 x 200watt blue CFL's
I'm half way through flowering in my first grow which i used 600watt HPS lights but because my plants are using those for flowering i have my other CFL ligts for vegging these new 40 plants which are clones of the plants i have growing just now

I am experimenting with the 24 hour lighting and hoping it to maybe give me a bigger yield as i only vegging for 5 weeks or so, As i've done the 18/6 with my first grow i am experimenting to see the difference

If you can afford the electric i'd say go for it dude!!!

What lights you using mate?

I read somewhere here about about an experiment where
24/0 and 18/6 were roughly on par in terms of yield
and the plants grown under 20/4 produced slightly more.

I've grown 24/0 before, and now grow 20/4, which I've had slightly better results with,
but I can honestly say its really not that big a factor at the end of the day.
Getting your bulb a bit closer would probably affect the yield more, put it that way.

Well to be honest i think the only reason i'm runnin this vegging on a 24 hour veg schedule is i cant afford another timer just now and i'm too stoned the majority of time to remember to turn them on and of manually, lol..
So this 24 hour veg schedule suits me fine just now, lol

The Lazyman's way. LMAO:evil:

I'm using the econolight 150w HPS for the 2 plants, and seems like I might go 20/4 if it seems to produce a better yield, thanks for the help.
