20 day old plant with foxfarm soil problem

I have 4 plants that are 20 days old and and I started them in Foxfarm ocean forest soil and they have been looking good and now I have noticed last night that the set of round leaves are turning yellow and the first true two leaves are slightly turning yellow, not much yet, but I can tell. There are also like 4 sets of leaves on them now. Could this be the beginning stages of nitrogen def? The guy at the hydro shop told me the soil has enough nutes in it for a month, but it has only been 20 days. Could the plants of almost used all the nutes in the soil already? I have them in 16 oz. dixie cups. I just watered them last night so I cannot water them for another 3-4 days, so if they turn yellow on the bottom leaves somemore, should I give them 1/4 strength nutes in like 3 days after the soil dries up? Thanks One of the plants it looks like the veins between the leaves are alittle purple too.

im using ff stuff right now as well.
dont have a problem yet.
Did you add lime?
could be PH?

yeah i guess your supposed to add lime to the FF soil.
the ratio is floating around the boards .
I mixed my soil a while ago and i forget.like half cup per gallon but im not sure off the top of my head.
Did you check the water before
or did you take the reading from the run off.?

It is quite normal for the coleoptile to die off during development so I wouldn't worry about that. Likewise with the first true leaves but that usually happens way later in development. Personally I would use the 1/4 strength nutes and watch closely to see if it helps. If it doesn't, don't add any more and post some pictures on the plant problems forum. Happy growing.

those leaves always fall off.

it's typical to lose the first few sets. as long as the new growth looks good i wouldn't worry about it. above poster is right, this is a good time to start adding weak nutes (going into 4th week)

OK so in 4 days when the soil is dry, I will add 1/4 nutes, and see what happens, I just hope they do not get to much more yellow in the next 4 days before I can water them again.

It'll be fine mate; like Jesus said, as long as the new growth looks healthy there is nothing to worry about.

im workin with the exact same soil, almost 28 dats in veg. and i was thinking i had a MG def. so i used a little epsom salt. this seems to happen to me every time and i still get killa buds! just trim off leaves that are seeming to do more bad than good.

OK..i cannot give them water with nutes in it now, because it will over water it right? since I watered it last night, I should just wait the 4 days and give them the mild nute solution?

You should not add lime to FFOF. It is stabilized with calcium from sea shells. What you are describing is somewhat normal with the lower leaves. Make sure your water is pH 6 - 6.5 (after adding ferts if you are adding them) and you won't have any pH issues with FFOF. Use something like Earth Juice Natural Down, not a home remedy.

As to the yellowing there are two possibilities I can think of - first is that FFOF is too hot for your strain, becuase it is too hot for starting seeds of some strains, though most thrive in it. Second is that you really do need nutes but that is doubtful for the young plants you describe. More likely they need starting in a more neutral soil for the seedling stage.

Yeah I heard that this soil might be to hot, but they have did so good the first 3 weeks with no burns, just nice green color and now the lower leaves just a hint of yellowing. Still does not look like burned, but I dunno. I will take pics tonight.

Bamstone....Thats exactly what I needed to hear!!!! I am currently growing some White Russian, and I was wondering why, at day 10, my bottom leaves were yellowing. Im using the FF soil, so I think what you said was right. The WR seed should have probably been grow best in neutral soil to start.....good advice!!!

So what would I need to do then, just wait on the nutes a while longer or give them 1/4 strength? Here are some pics, the first two are of the slightly yellow bottom leaves and the the third is a pic of the top of one of them and the last pic is of two plants that look alittle droopy..I gave them water yesterday thinking it would perk them back up. My PH is 6.6

An Update, 5 hours later..i think it looks like the leaves growing out of the top, maybe a little light green, I am going to add 1/4 nutes. And does anybody know the difference between Superthrive Red and Green? I have both and was going to add 1/4 of that too.

Leaves growing out of the top are supposed to be lime green. That is completely normal, don't worry.

Your plants look pretty good to me. I'm no expert, but if they were my plants I wouldn't worry about it. I'd keep an eye on things, but not worry. If leaves other than the very bottom ones start turning yellow, then I would start trying to fix things.

My White Rusian did okay in FFOF but it's home made from Serious AK47 f2's & DP White Widow. Other strains, most notably Blueberry just die in it. I now mix FFOF 50/50 with spagnum peat (AKA Miracle Grow Seed Starter) for starting Blueberry and other "sensitive strains". After they get a good hold and a few sets of five blade leaves I put them into 100% FFOF and they love it.

what other strains man?
what do you mean sensitive?

Paradise Opium does better in a light mixture, and a cross I did of Female Seeds Grapefruit & White Widow. By sensitive I mean that they don't thrive well after sprouting. They usually are pale and grow slowly if at all. Some die.
