7/22 Update

Bad News - Yesterday when doing tie downs on the OG#18 I noticed one of the two original tops had a weak spot when bending it down, looked closer and found a borer hole. Looked through the stalk and stems and found maybe 3-5 more entry holes (identified by frass on the stalk). This is something I wouldnt wish on my worst enemy. Eggs are laid by moths, the larvae find their way to the stalks, enter, and continue to eat up and down on the inside causing disease, weakness, and potentially destroying the entire crop. Last season I got introduced to these guys, I didnt notice any damage until mid flower, but as it came time to harvest there was entire branches rotting at the knuckles and dying off. What I did (where I could) was slit the stem to find out what direction they could be going in, and poke needle holes into the branch 4-6 inches in each direction. I did spray BT about a week ago for the first time, and im hoping that it could have an effect, even if it only gets 1 or 2 of them, but I dont believe it will. LUCKILY this is the only plant that seems afflicted. There is nothing more I can do for this one, im going to wage war, ordered European Corn Borer pheromone lures that will go onto yellow sticky traps, ordered a 1/2 acre dynatrap, and will be treating BT every 3 days (was gonna do it anyways for the budworms). From what I read, its the generations to come that cause the most damage. Once they get in and eat for a few weeks to a month they pupate, exit the plant, and breed 2-3 times a season. An optimistic prediction is that I will be able to salvage the plant with up to 25% yeild loss IF I can cull future generations but losing the entire plant isnt such a longshot. Its take and give under the rule of mother nature, what can you do

Other than that things have been popping off in the garden. Couldn't have asked for better results. More SST's, more tie downs. Resiliently made it through 3-4 days of 90-98 degree weather. Took clones off the white widow, Eclair, OG#18, Matty OG, and critical super silver haze. The Matty OG and Eclair clones will become mothers for future grows and the rest will be going to F&F.

Strawberry Cough - Besides the weird genetic tissue paper like growth in some spots, she really wants to be a monster.
722 SC.jpg

OG#18 - Beautiful plant, sucks that this might be the healthiest she'll ever look.
722 OG18.jpg

Matty OG mystery bagseed - Cloned and going to keep these genetics for as long as I can. What a fucking beauty. Pink/purple leaf stems, reeks like menthol/gas/fruit, first plant that ive ever grown in veg that reeks when you get 5-6ft from it. Topped her once and the rest took very little effort for amazing results. Showing pre flower signs, could be the first or second girl to flower in the garden, if thats the case and the flowers can finish before October shes going to be my trophy girl. Gonna hit a branch with the Red Diesel pollen and see what I can come up with.
722 MOG tops.jpg722 MOG.jpg722 MOG colors.jpg

Critical Super Silver Haze - I think shes doing pretty well considering she was put out @ 2 weeks old compared to the rest at 4-5.
722 CSSH.jpg

Critical Orange Punch x2 - The twins are doing just OK in my opinion. Drinking way more than the rest of the garden, and had some sort of issue, lots of purpling at the top of stems, leaves hard and rough, slower growth, and woody branches. Also has some TMV looking leaves here and there. Definitely couldn't be a soil/feeding issue since the rest of the garden is no different. Maybe they just demand more of something specific, or the heat was a bit much for them, who knows. They still should produce high quality flowers.

White Widow - Tall and lanky girl, cant wait to see what she can do in flower. Very low maintenance.
722 WW.jpg

24k Gold - I didnt expect too much from her. But she's definitely showing that she can compete with the ones in the 30gal pots.
722 24k.jpg

Cali Orange - Small, lanky, doesn't really smell or look like much.
722 Cali O.jpg

Strawberry Eclair - Just wow. As a freebie I never expected what shes become. I really wanted some nice berry flavor in the garden, and thought that the Strawberry Cough would do just fine, but the strawberry eclair ECLIPSES it in terms of that strawberry smell. Stem rub has this overpowering raw fresh and juicy strawberry stank to it. Cloned for mother for a future indoor set up as she grows pretty small outside.
722 SE.jpg

Sour Diesel - Been outside for about a week now. Put her out very young. Going to top and start mainlining this weekend, for sure gonna be a cool little experiment.

my heart sank man, so sorry about that! Those bastards will pay. I have been a nut about spraying every day 2x a day with peppermint Castile soup watered down. Everything else look pro man! Let me know what you are doing for you ore flower nutrients, are you doing sugar at some point? And when? I read crazy article on infusing flavor into plant at the very end, I may try it on my smallest clone for the fun of it , I will let you know. My plants are eating water with the heat lately as well. Kill those bugs man!!!!!

Haha been waiting to see an update of your plants. Love it dude. You are going to have some amazing stuff come Croptober, cant wait to see it.
Thanks man. From what ive seen from others, borers arent much of a common problem. IMO they are one of the worst pests, maybe even worse than the budworms. Indoor growers have it good sometimes lol

For flower all I plan to do is feed fungal dominated compost tea once or twice, replace corn with mung beans for the SST's and increase the frequency of Alfalfa SST's. Ill be top dressing worm castings and malted barley powder weekly, and maybe throw some amendments higher in P-K around the beginning of August when I do the first fungal tea. I also have a batch of LAB's fermenting, first time using it and would like to test it out to see how it goes.
The only sugars going in would be from the molasses I use for compost tea. I've been following that post on here about the guy using fruits to bring out specific terps. Im not a non-believer, many things in life that were once thought to be false have been proven true, so I guess anything is possible. Now im no chemist or anything, dont even have any background in any of that stuff so who am I to go on and say if its possible or not. I think it would be a dope experiment one way or the other so let me know how it turns out.

7/29 Update

Since last week, top dressed malted barley powder and worm castings right before some heavy rains. 2 days ago fed corn SST. Been foliar spraying BT every 3 days, applied diatomaceous earth to the base of the stalks and increased my arsenal of flying insect management weapons. Other than that, more tie downs where necessary and started cleaning out the inside sucker branches. Im going to start setting up some trellis netting for the bigger girls, and start planning out how I can add to the cage structure to throw tarps on when they flower.

Strawberry Cough - Bush status, the 30gal trio in the bottom row is exceeding my expectations
729 SC.jpg

OG#18 - Still looking healthy as can be given theres little worms eating it from the inside. Been keeping a close eye on this one, so far only two out of the half dozen holes seem to be active. She really wants to bush out but pretty much capped on space being between the other 2 bushes. I also worry about structural integrity during flower because of the borers, so I might just leave it to grow vertical.
729 OG.jpg

Matty OG Mystery Bagseed - My personal favorite, what a great plant. Colors, smell, and structure is beautiful. Definitely noticing the preflower stretch on her more than the others.
729 MOG tops.jpg729 MOG.jpg729 MOG colors.jpg

Critical Super Silver Haze - Structure is still exactly like the Critical + 2.0 I grew last year which ended up being some fire. Cant wait for her to finish
729 CSSH.jpg

Critical Orange Punch x2 - Still the lowest performers in the garden. Have no plans to grow this strain outdoors again. Still excited to see what they can produce in flower.
729 COPx2.jpg

White Widow - Doing her thing. Demands little attention and is looking to be some good stuff.
729 WW.jpg

24K Gold - Absolutely blowing up, need to get 2nd caging on her ASAP since shes getting so big. Definitely more nervous about storm damage on her over the others.
729 24k.jpg

Cali Orange - Looks like shes starting preflower.
729 Cali O.jpg

Strawberry Eclair - Not the biggest plant but damn does she make up for it everywhere else.
729 SE.jpg

Sour Diesel - Decided since its so close to transition that I wont be mainlining her. I think I will get more out of it if I leave her to grow terminal.
729 Sour D.jpg

Random Clone - I put 2 cuttings from a cleanout in a nearby compost pile (recycled soil, weeds/plant matter, and where all the grass clippings go from mowing the lawn) back in late June. One died early on, and some weeds overgrew where this one was. Got rid of the weeds and noticed that the clone was alive and growing, what a surprise lol
729 Clone.jpg

Red Diesel Male - Looks like ill be harvesting his pollen very soon, I plan to hit the Matty OG and White Widow with some pollen and see what I can come up with!

8/7 Update
Transition is underway, the OG, MOG, and the three critical strains are all on week 1 of flowering. The rest are not far behind. Exciting!
Everything is looking beautiful, but this week had some ugly rear its head. Noticed some sort of rot on the strawberry cough and bagseed stalks. Cleaned up with a toothbrush and hydrogen peroxide and it hasnt been spreading further. The OG18 stalk/stems are starting to show damage from the stem borers, currently one hole seems to be active. Lots of fungus gnats in some of the pots.
This week fed corn+alfalfa sst, top dressed with MBP. Will have a fungal dominated compost tea brewing tonight until Monday and will top dress with an assortment of amendments for flower. Will feed LABS the next watering after that just to help everything get broken down and refresh the microbiology in the soil. Took clones of the bagseed and Strawberry Eclair to mother out for when I can get a better indoor set up.
Started the first thorough cleanout inside the plants, get rid of the sucker branches and get more airflow for the rot/fungus gnats/powdery mildew that showed up for me 3rd week of August last year.

Strawberry Cough - Preflowering, but one of the longer flowering strains in the garden. Will definitely be a fight come October.
8 7 sc.jpg

OG18 - Really surprised me with how tall this one got. Going to suck if the borer damage progresses to dying off, really good looking plant.
8 7 og18.jpg

Matty OG mystery bagseed - Really beautiful colors. Cant wait to see what the flowers look like.
8 7 mog.jpg8 7 mog tops.jpg

Critical Super Silver Haze - First girl to go into flower.
8 7 cssh.jpg

Critical Orange Punch x2 - Followed right behind the CSSH for flower.
8 7 copx2.jpg

White Widow - Massive, smells dank, low maintenance, I would definitely grow this one again.
8 7 ww.jpg

24k - No preflower yet, I believe this will be a late October strain.
8 7 24k.jpg

Cali Orange - Following what she did last year and exploding with early August growth.
8 7 cali o.jpg

Strawberry Eclair - Not flowering yet, but she should be a quick finisher.

8/17 Update
Been seeing tons of moths/eggs so I am staying vigilant with the BT spraying every 3 days. Also releasing parasitic wasps every 1-2 weeks that lay their eggs inside moth eggs called Trichogramma minutum. Stopped all plant training, the only other training ill be doing is reverse tie downs to make sure the branches can support the weight of flower. Put my watering habits in check, no more gnats. Top dressed with some neem seed meal and alfalfa meal followed by a fungal dominated tea after last post. Fed corn + alfalfa sst yesterday.

Strawberry Cough - Had a rough time dealing with the heat. Some top leaves got burnt, some parts pretty droopy during the afternoons of the heatwave, all seems to be good now though. Looking to be the last flowering plant in the garden.
817 sc.jpg

OG18 - All borer holes dormant now, but with everything im doing for cats in general im not too worried if a second generation were to come. Looking really healthy despite having tunnels all throughout her.
817 og18.jpg

Matty OG Mystery Bagseed - Looking really good. More and more colors every time I go out and check on her.
817 mog.jpg

Critical Super Silver Haze - First to flower, starting to stack hard!
817 cssh.jpg

Critical Orange Punch x 2 - One a little further into flowering than the other, but generally started around the same time as the CSSH.
817 cop x2.jpg

White Widow - Still not fully in flower yet, shes definitely stretched harder than any of the other plants and still has some more to go. Definitely the biggest plant in the garden now.
817 ww.jpg

24k - Not showing any flowers yet, but shes almost there.
817 24k.jpg

Cali Orange - Really put on some size in the past week.
817 cali o.jpg

Strawberry Eclair - Didnt really blow up like the rest did, still looking good.
817 se.jpg

Sour Diesel - Doing her thing, not planning on doing any training because of how late she was put out.

9/3 Update
On the final stretch! Just feeding SST's, monthly compost tea brewing now that I had to re-brew because I tried to be a hero and add some things into it which ended up at with a pH of 4.5. Other than that all im doing is spraying BT every 3-4 days. I havent found any PM yet, last year it showed up the 3rd week of August. My tap pH is around 9 and since im spraying BT with it so frequently that might be helping to make the environment less attractive for the PM to develop in - that or the weather difference between last season and now. Despite the widespread stalk damage, seeds that have been showing up and the borer damage on the OG18, everything is looking great. The only plant not in flower is the compost clone.

Strawberry Cough - One of the last ones that went into flower, been looking a little hungry.
93sc.jpg
OG18 - Just beautiful. Really surprising it made it this far looking this healthy given the fact that more than half of the stems had borers.
93og18.jpg
Matty OG mystery bagseed - for sure the garden MVP. Cloned and saved the genetics for future grows.
93mog.jpg
Critical Super Silver Haze - Looking almost identical to the Critical + 2.0 I grew last year. Similar smells too. Should be a last week of Sep/1st week of Oct harvest
93cssh.jpg
Critical Orange Punch x2 - Doing their things. They looked/grew the same but one is 1-2 weeks further into flower than the other.
93copx2.jpg
White Widow - The last plant to go into flower. Looking like its going to be a fight to keep her going till harvest. Definitely end of Oct.
93WW.jpg
24k - Dropped a lot of fan leaves during transition. Flowers are a bit behind the rest of the garden but look to be developing fine.
9324k.jpg
Cali O - Really blew up during preflower.
93calio.jpg
Strawberry Eclair - Cloned for future indoor grows. Smells and looks great, I just think it would do better indoors.
93 se.jpg
Sour Diesel - Looking a little bit sad today for some reason. Im glad I popped this one when I did and let it grow terminal.
