24 hour Dark Period before Harvest and Let Completely Dry

3-5 days with total darkness and feed her nothing less than freaking iced cold water, i usually placed an iced on top of the soil till it melts away. have read it in hightimes magazine from one of the breeders. have done this process and the plant was so fuckin sticky full of essential oils on it

But .. as the study found it will not work as well with all strains, but it will work at least a little. It is like how way before there was scientific proof to support it outdoor growers learned to harvest just before first light, or as soon after the sun came up as possible. It gave them higher potency, they did not lose any to the sun that day. Later when people began to grow indoors, those who knew about sunlight and THC, would manually switch off their lights after their final light cycle so their lights would not come on again before they had a chance to harvest, again to get maximum potency. Later it was found that extended periods of darkness increased THC levels more and 72 hours is about as long as a plant can run on stored energy so going beyond that will not gain you anything and doing it for a shorter period of time will not gain you as much as you can possibly get.

so your placing the ice on them in the final days??? while she is in the dark???
might have to try that one myself

well yes, just because i only feed her iced cold water and i dont want to waste the ice so i just let it melt on top of the soil. this method didnt came from me it was on the high times magazine seeds and strain guide 2010 page 86. heres a word per word short article. MEDICINE MAN'S SECRET GROW TIP: add weight density, resin, flavor and aroma to your garden by simply turning off the lights and giving your plants cold water and full darkness for the last three to five days before harvest. youll be amazed at the amount of essential oils created in that short period.

now i have tried this on my northern lights. i had a slight problem of getting molds on my buds though since it was my mistake by not putting air circulation so the room was too humid. i did a 2 batch test. the first batch was harvested normally, the 2nd batch was done with this method...and yes this method does really work. my 2nd batch was still sticky to the touch of when it was cured, untill now 2 mos ago from harvest more like it was just freshly cured.

ok i know this is an old thread but after reading to find out the best method everybody has different thoughts .im going to test this out and post results 13 plants 5 im going to harvest after 12 hours dark then 4 after 36 hours and final 4 after 60 hours in complete darkness and compare difference .

you don't want to let her dry out, you actually want to starve her of oxygen while doing this.read up

I can say dark period works for tric explosion, at least in the Kush Berry I have been growing. I have an 8 plant aeroponic system under a dimable ballast, I run the first 2 weeks of flower under 600W (which is un upgrade from the 400W i use for veg) after the first 2 weeks I move up to 750w, and the last 2 weeks I put it at 1000W, seems to produce big thick buds. Anyways for the dark period I harvested half the plants (4 of them) after running a week flush, and I left the other 4 plants to run for another 3 days without light then 1 , 8 hour light period, then 3 more dark days the harvested. The amount of trics production was shocking. The dark period does work.
