answer your qustion yes they are poor as there light foot print is bad i bought an aircooled hood which was only slightly more expensive.
Also aircooled hood the glass cuts out uvb making MH a poor choice and ive noticed lower yield with the glass on with hps
commercial growers have said the same on youtube

I cant tell if you if it will get hot it depends on your ambient and extraction but id run it without on first and monitor it

4 weeks veg 8 weeks flower 3g 4 plants max 1 per sqft sea of green i would use. You might getaway with 2-3g and 3 weeks veg if using 4 plants or just 1x very large plant in a 4g but it may require training and more veg time.
it looks like you dont know anything about cool tubes. yes there are bad cooltubes around. very bad! but if you pick cooltubes with the correct type of glass+ reflector you wont have the type off loss you described. its all about what material is the cooltube and how they put the reflector , that is what determines the type of light loss and so on. also you seem to never even have tried it out for yourself while i on the other hand tried both and got 2.7% highers yield from cooled hood. thats it 2.7 % per plant, better yes but not worth another 50 bucks imho. and i can see no difference in potency from cooltube to cooled hood. actually its vey hard to tell the difference even if grow wth bare bulbs.. ed rosethal is a genious imo and i still agree with you that cooled hoods are more optimal. but the way u talk about cooltubes man.. read up good before you bash something that you know nothing about lol. and fyi if you want the best bud, use bare bulbs.

The door will probably have to be open unless you have a ventilation shaft in there? some closets do. for intake get another fan thats a bit weaker or use passive intake. best of luck to you!

cool story but you know potency can rang from 5% more from where on the plant you test 2.7% is well in the margin of error
im running aircooled hoods against my adjusta wings and wings are giving bigger yields

look at the light foot print of a cool tube its pant. Most growers ive spoke to after buying a cooltube said it was a poor investment

Personally, I think they have their uses. Especially in a vertical grow. It all depends upon the situation.
