3x3 Tent with 600w HPS too HOT!!!

I have a 3x3 with an air cooled 600w looks very similar to yours. The only difference is I have my filter and 440 cfm inline fan in the same ducting as my lights. If I was you I would return the booster and look into a 6" inline fan or a fan filter combo. The air coming through your light isn't moving fast enough. My cooltube is cool to the touch after being on all day with the inline fan hooked up. My temps never go above 81 at the very highest but stay mostly around 75. I vent into the room its in and draw air through the bottom vent flaps. Since heat rises the air coming in the bottom is already colder than the air your drawing through you light at chest to head height. put an inline fan into it. Maybe buy a 6" fan combo and save the 4" for a closet veg

3-4 things you could try. 1. unhook the carbon filter and see if that is a restriction causing air-flow issues. 2. Where is the 4-6 " reduction? is there a way you can make it straight 6 inch?. 3. Anyway you can intake fresh air through your hood also? 4. See what happens if you just suck air straight out of the room through your light. You need to be flowing more or cooler air.

Air has some good points.
I think your problem is the 4" to 6" causing some sorta back pressure or constriction.
I have a simple set up with 1 output fan that is 4".
The inlet (fresh air) hole is also 4" though it could be larger.
But basically you want the in's and out's to be the same size.

Everyone here is making a good point.

A booster fan is pretty much useless at keeping 600w cool enough.

I used to use 600w and I used a 400CFM fan to run the light from a cold air intake outside the grow.

You NEED to upgrade the fan for your lighting hood.

400CFM will help ALOT!!!!!!

Then you could use the 4"fan and filter to scrub the room.


Unfortunately I think you've been duped by the grow shop. They've sold you a piece of kit that isn't fit for purpose knowing you'll be back to upgrade!

Frustration happens bro, don't let it get to ya. Take a step back and rethink whatever it is your struggling with. I would advise when you make a purchase, try not to cause youself a whole bunch of headache and something thats going to cause a whole bunch of "adaptation" if thats a word.. Of course you want to get all of the light penetration that you can, but on the other hand running 600's in a small tent is anything but plug and play so to speak.

Tomorrow I will be going back to the shop to return the fan, also I will pick up a 6in flange for my filter so I can have everything running on 6in duct.

My question.. The fan they have is a can-fan s600 (269 cfm) so from everyone's experience would that be to low and should I just order a 400+ from online?

I had a similar problem on my grow and ended up leaving the tent open most of the time. Of course the smell got to be a problem, and I won't do it that way again. Cold air HAS to be actively pushed in and the warm air actively sucked out.

It's the only part of my grow that I need to tinker with on the next round, and I was going to do a set up somewhat like what you're discussing. Please repost when you have it figured out! And good luck...I'm sure you'll get it where you need it.

6 to 4 reducer works. Just picture it like this your standing at the door of the tent ok. Put the filter to the left side of the tent with the inline in front of it. Now hang the light beside the filter and fan. Now run your duct off the fan and bend it around to the reflecter with the 6 to 4 in the middle of the bend.

My fan is 200cfm, its quite sufficient in keeping the temps cool. ive got things steady at 72 or 74 now, humidity is good and all is well. youve got a slightly larger tent but im sure 200cfm would do well cause itll suck my tent in lmao.
My advice would be to not return everything to the shop. get a 6 inch cooltube, 6 inch fan and filter and if you can, 6" duct. run it all inline and worry about air going in as a seperate, but equally important matter. my set up was a bit of a pain in the arse. I had to use 4" fan and filter cause more was over kill or unavailable for at least a week and i couldnt wait that long, but the cooltube is 6" so i had to get duct connectors and holding everything together and taping it was a real biatch. getting all things the same size would have been nice but im happy with my set up now as it works and does exactly what i need.
Also, definitely check the filter to make sure there is no plastic under the prefilter.. i didnt get mine off for a a day or so lol

i run 3x3 w600 as well. i use a 250cfm to pull the air thru the hood.never try to push the air as it will inevitably blow back into you tent.

I'm keeping everything and going to be switching the fan out tomorrow. I have all the other materials, the only other piece I need is a 6in flange for my filter as of now I only have the 4in.

But tomorrow once I have everything "hopefully" I will get a picture up and let you guys know how it turned out.

It will be filter -> reflector -> Fan -> outside the tent.

Alright guys just got back from the shop and set everything up. I traded in my filter for a larger one and my 4in inline fan for a 6in.

Currently I have the Filter -> Reflector -> Fan -> Window
it's been running for about 45min now and is at 83*

The room temp was 69* before I plugged everything in and still feels pretty cool. Ill give ya guys another update in a couple hours with the temps. But to make things even simpler I will be running them at night just to make sure heat isn't a problem.

Below are pics of the new setup, if it's difficult to see there is a 12in stationary fan on the bottom with 2 6in clip fans pointed right below the reflector. With 1 mesh flap open.

Just checked the temp and its sitting at 79* everything seems to be great. I just put my 4 Vanilla Kush seedlings into solo cups and will be growing them 12/12 from start to finish. I'll make a grow thread for my first grow in the next day or two.
