No No there is nothing wrong with the girls at all it's normal for the very bottom leaves to have fallen off as long as the others are ok at this point in the grow cycle..I just fed them grow nutes for extra nitro becouse ive had trouble in the past with early leaf browing and falling of so i did not want to take any chances this go round...Peace

Hey Stinkbudd,
I've got 4 skunk plants growing under similar circumstances as far as using the 400w HPS and soil. Also I started them flowering on Oct. 20th, just three days after you. My plan is to harvest a couple weeks before christmas so i have some smaller nugs ready for christmas day. Check out my Grow Journal, our due dates should be around the same time, lol. So the margins and tips of your fan leaves hooking down is not concerning you? They look very
dark green in your pictuere, and your leaves hooking is a pretty sure sign of nitrogen OD.

It could also be fungas gnats tearin up the rokt zone i guess.

Well the gnats are no longer a problem, and ive noticed that the plants do droop or curl under more since i let the med dry almost completely out bone dry before watering but as you will see once i water them they are no longer curling after the lights go on they are fine..

ok here are the girls after the watering last night i dont have any leaf curling going on as you can see, now the next time before watering i'll take more pic's and you can see the droop from the dry medium..Peace

the same thing happens to me stinkk .... I usually take pics right after watering and my leaves huddle up like they're ready to make the big play. If you look in my journal all my plants look overwatered or overfed. same thing.
Makes it look like i'm treating my plants like shit ....lol

when you water how are you doing it?? are you letting the medium dry out almost completely??
I'm still on the fence about what i do when i water... i usually let them get DRY .... then when it comes time to water I give em a shitload of it .... It hasn't caused me any problems that i can see... I know it isn't recommended that you do it that way due to salt buildup . but in my own head i figured the healthy (big) dose of H20 i'm giving them is flushing some of the salts out. just curious on your technique

Looking good man! I was just going to throw my opinion in there about the whole watering thing too. This is my 4th or 5th grow now, the first couple times being super amateur. After working with these plants i think i was over watering every other grow setup i have ever done. I used a lot more vermiculite mixed in with my soil this time around so my water drains a lot faster, it works good because the plant drinks what it wants and rest goes to the bottom. Also i have been pulling more dirt aside on the edges of my planter and seeing how dry it is down below under the top soil. Anyways my point is that I have been letting the soil get really dry before watering again and even then i concentrate the water to the center stalk underneath and I never saturate unless the whole plant was starting to droop.

I don't know if you guys ficus feed (leaf feed) your plants very often but i mist all of my plants top to bottom a couple times a day. This also helps keep the plant healthy and still drinking even if the roots/soil get a little dry, which is good for respiration. This actually causes the roots to drink more water when they are wet, i know this because i used to mist plants that were fed with an aqua globe and you should've seen it bubble after spraying the leaves. I think the ficus feeding might be why i have never seen my leaves droop at all. Just have to be careful about what you mist on your plants as far as fertilizer anyways, i usually do just straight water and save the fert. for the soil.

Well the one thing i started doing was letting my medium dry out completely becouse of the gnat problem i had once i treated it and added the sand i read where it said to let your soil dry out well before each watering so thats why i let it dry out..But yeah it does look like im neglecting my ladies when this happens im not and they bounce back well after a good watering...Plus my darn drainage is so good i think just by watering i flush just about every watering a lil to much perlite maybe...Peace

Hey thanks for the input bro, much appreciated + rep for the post i do foliar feed but not that often as i heard it makes your plants less reliant on root feeded i guess kind of dependant on the spraying but i guess if its only water it cant hurt to much, just be careful when flowering...Peace

Yeah another nice thing about foliar feeding is that i was just reading a thread on rollitup about if you mist a few times a day it will keep spider mites off your plants and if theyre already there in small numbers it will flush them out and keep them from reproducing.

As well as close the stomata every time you mist, not to mention their is a higher possibly of a phytotoxicity occurring
If youre spraying while your HIDS are on.

Interesting, the dryer your media gets the higher your tds in the soil is because of the loss of water the ratio of salts to water goes up.

This can cause nutes to fall out of solutio. Or become over toxic, the dryness could explain that.

Yeah i got that, the other day i was discussing the same topic with another person here and ask if this could be the case, i was asked how frequently did i have to water and that answer was every 3 1/2 to 4 days but with each watering i get a good drain off i was told that if i had such a fluid drain off then i most likely wouldnt have a heavy salts build up...Now the flip side to that was that becouse of the drainage i could be running my nute solution right through the medium as well and not getting as much nutrients to the plants as desired..My thought is ive had some really great smoke and grows growing as i have been, yet im always open to improvement so long as its a tried and true scenerio, when someone tells me i have major leaf clawing and i look at my girls everyday and dont see it like that than i dont want to apply curling leaf theropy to a plant that is not showing that problem..i just took pictures of my girls after the last watering and as you see my leafs are not clawing but if i let the soil dry completely out then im sure they will began again..

very interesting ....I've read and know this already, but it's nice to hear again.... like stink.... i'm having a problem with gnats.. I've never let my medium get this dry during a grow.
so what's the happy medium?? I have a moisture meter, I can see when my moisture levels are dropping. Due to the pests i can't keep it moist constantly, or should i say it would be a swarm by now. .... funny three people here are using the same practice that's frowned upon. I also water as theWOZ was saying... i try and focus on the center of the root system but i do not foliar feed.
fucking gnats ... fucked up my whole routine.

Ya of course, its always the best view when you can see the big pic. Youre not flushing too much water thru with all that runoff, youre leeching and keeping it clean, its interesting they claw like that when drying out.

I wasn't callin out any techniques from you, the plants clearly like what youre doing. Keep tweeking and tryig to keep them perked 24/7, thats my goal.

Hey no problem my man i love to have things pointed out to me i hope i did'nt come off as an ass or anything, you just get so much different shit here man sometime it tends to make you stay at home and go with the status quo you..But believe me i understood everything you were saying and you were in my book at least dead on so thanks for opening my eyes to other possibilities..+ rep for your patience..
