4x4 Grape Ape and XXX 100% organic grow

OK, 6weeks and alls well! I'm down to 10.5 hours on and 13.5 off, and am noticing no difference in the growth at all. They seem to be just fine with it.
So, 2 weeks to go and the 13-1 theory is working fine. I can't tell exactly how much power was saved, because I have other lights going and so forth, but there were substantial hours of light cut out, so ,the savings are there for sure.
I have noticed however, that the buds are tighter and heavier than usual for these strains. Maybe slightly, smaller, but heavier for sure. This is due to the blue spectrum lighting I started with. They have been under red(HPS) for only a week, so IDK maybe they'll blow up in these last couple weeks. The flowers do look very healthy though.

Thanks for documenting you lighting experiment Wheezer. The blue spectrum early in flower makes a lot of sense. I think I'll give it a try on my girls about to go into flower.

I'm sure you know this, but temperatures this time of year have a lot to do with bud density. I always look forward to the two crops I pull during late fall/winter, as the buds are of a higher quality overall with great density.

yea I did, but not really to the extent that it is. The good thing is, even my indoor, like this one, is in my garage, so the temps fluctuate pretty wildly in there, and I have a window behind this set-up that if I open it, it gets a blast of cool air in there. It hasn't gotten cold enough to turn ther purps yet, but I will get it down there if I can. Thanks for the interest.

Not saying the flav isn't bomb, its one I really want to try.

After doing some searching, I disagree. I think that BC Bud depot is crap to start with, but the federation cut is the one claiming to be mostly indica, so, nah, I'll stay away from that one,. Subcools Flav is prolly closer to mine than that cut.

Romulan is a sativa. Ppl think its an indica because of its structure. Even seedfinder, and many seedbanks list romulan as an indica.

The federation cut is not indica. Its the real deal, if you got your rom as a cutting, then it is most likely the federation cut.

Bcbud depot has fire too. Have you ever grown any of there gear?

oh ok, when I saw it listed as an Indica, I just assumed they had it ALL wrong. I havn't grown that cut so I guess now I'll have to try it. I bought a pack from Secret Valley a while back, and they didn't look right at all, and I didn't even finish em' sooooo.......

I have BC Bud depot God Bud, but havn't cracked em' yet, I say that going from what I've heard from a couple people, but you know how that goes.

Well I have 4 bc bud depot roms in veg. And I will give an honest report when they are done. There about 7 weeks old. Gonna veg em for a while, gonna make f2s.

I will be very critical since I definately want the real deal as well. As close as I can get in seed form. I may be able to source the federation cut which would be awesome.

You've got a lot of nice gear. You should check out the seed collectors thread in seed n strain reviews. A bunch of seed freaks. Some with like 200+ strains. You'd fit rite in.

These things are getting fatter and harder every day right now! Couple more days and it'll be 7 weeks of flower. They still look to be at least 2 weeks out to me, unless they turn quick. Maybe this light schedule slowed flowering down by a week? Then again, this purple cut is not my usual one, so it may take longer.The only one in here that I know exactly how long t it takes indoors from experience is the 1 Maple Leaf, and it's usually 58-60 days. We are at day 46, so yea, maybe they're on track. I need to stop trippin'!!

Looking really nice wheezer. I acquired several MH bulbs this summer for a $1 a piece. I was considering using them for the first, 2 weeks of flower during stretch. I would have thought 4 weeks but yours look good.
So is this the first grow that you've used the MH for four4 weeks of flower?
Did you read something on this or just give it a try?

This is the first time I tried it. Me and my brother were talking one night , and the idea was born during a smoke sesh. It just made sence to me cause in nature, you have more blue in the summer, and more red in the fall, soooo..........

Being a 10+ year veteran of my own home made 4x4x2.5 deep soil box I never take the soil out,
Compost in place and feed it left over cannabis and other greens and browns.
Blend up left over veggies and water with that puree

I have been 100% organic soil and this soil, in this box, is 11 years old and started as composted materials such as alfalfa, pine shavings, peat moss and much more.

I have a nice new batch of Tea here that always beefs up my and friends stalks of young plants and better stalks means better flowering later especially in limited headroom gardens like yours and mine.

So when the season is over add greens and browns and turn them into that soil along with other organic materials like azomite, kelp meal, bone meal and such. When you feel the heat of microbes yo know you are creating super soil.
Returning the roots and stems + leaves to the soil recycles nutrients and improves the soil not to mention creates zero traces of trim in the garbage.

I run 1500 watts in three cool tubes and can run from 400 watts up to 1500 as I see fit but I admit I love to hit seedlings with 1500 watts and watch them deal with it. So far that helps keep tall plants short because inter-node spacing is often really short at first until canopy fills in and light energy is more utilized by more leaf surface and they start to reach and compete.
My theory too is that they think they have to defend and so grow as sticky as they can but then again I always grow sticky so who is to tell.

As to the outsides not getting light. A firm wall and reflective bubble-wrap type insulation seems to work well but I admit I have two 250 watt bulbs about 8 inches from the walls. I do not have issues with growth on the edges now that I have the three cool tubes set up.

Anyway I like my 4x4 cab. It drains into the sewer, has an air space in the bottom that is really important to healthy growth and a healthy soil.

Okay I think you see the benefits of a soil box but the biggest is that we don't have to "clean" or remove the soil. We just need to tend it and feed it.

Try not to use commercial metals or salts based fertilizers since that collects in the soil.

Again if you have questions of a 10+ year soil box guy just ask.

That's cool man! Is there ever any odor coming from indoor composting? And do you have to wait a few months between grows?

In a 4x4 airflow is always priority so yes there is issues with dramatic indoor composting unless you have ventilation.

What is the benefit is that deep soil offers us more growth options.

Myself, I have used an 8 inch Hurricane on a hand made, custom twin filter 4mm carbon pellet air cleaner before I vented it outside.
The rest is trade secrets.
