5x5 LED lighting, need help.

Hey guys I need some assistance with lighting, I intend to buy a 5x5 Gorilla grow tent soon, it's going to be a snug fit in my designated growing room. I've been looking at 3 LED companies products.

• rapidled , com/5-x-5/ (One of these DIY kits)

• californialightworks , com/product/solarsystem-1100-uvb/

(Can't post links, so you have to fix the link if you look at them)
(Want quality over quantity)

My budget is like 1000$-1500$, but I can shelf out more if the Cali lights are worth it. I do like the Cali light because it has UVB supplement which is meant to be good in last few weeks of flower for bud quality.

I'm not sure if the other two, RL and HLG have any UVB spectrum in their lights? So if there are any technical people here that could check, I'd really appreciate that.

How is the coverage of all these lights? And is the PAR or PPF sufficient? I barely understand what they stand for, not much about the function.

Are these 3 lights efficient? Is 1 more efficient than the other? What would you guys recommend out of these 3 or any other company light?

Is this enough watt pull from the wall to have enough watt per square foot?

The HLG-550 is just not quite enough power, IMHO.
The RapidLED kit certainly gets you there in terms of power and gives you about 760 uMol average PPFD.
The CLW SolarSystem 1100 - Just not a fan of the whole "red/blue is all plants need" concept. Its based on flawed and/or misunderstood science. Can't recommend based on that alone.

Of the three, I would recommend the RapidLED kit. But let me throw in another option - have you considered LED Strips from Samsung? 24 of their 22" F series (or 12 of their 44") strips will deliver almost 1900 PPF for 800W. Cost to build is under $500.

Edit - 1900 PPF in a 5x5 is about 800 uMol PPFD average

Is that opinion for the HLG 550 V2 as well? It doesn't display that it's V2 in that link for some reason. Out of the 3 options on RL, which would you pick and why? And the extra suggestion, the Samsung panels, do you gotta DIY them up yourself or do they sell some sort of kit that you can just assemble?

And I assume higher PPF, PPFD is good. :lol:

Yes, its a little more efficient, but not quite enough for a 5x5. IMO.

I would probably go with the Luminus - the efficiency difference is miniscule, may as well get the one that costs less.

Not many people selling Strip kits here in the US other than myself - I'm working on getting my website all set up. I know DIYLED is doing kits and finished setups in the UK. Not sure about anybody else.

Yeah, the ELG's would be good option if they didn't derate them for 1120 VAC. No where near the same cost though - I get the LRS-150 for $17, the ELG-150 are over $30

Do you have anyone doing a test grow or will you do that your self?

I'm not volunteering ( been too far away) Just curious.

P.S I know a test isn't necessary to prove a light grows weed. Its just what folks seem to do.

P.P.S Nice simple design! I like the lack of whistles :bigjoint:

@nfhiggs Not sure if I'm @'ing at you right.

But I've been in contact with RL customer service and I've been looking into having them make an addition to one of their 5x5 kits, by adding another strip of 4 lights, so there'd be 16x cobs with same dimensions between them all for coverage.

What do you think of that? Too much? And with that change, what would be the PAR and PPFD things be at? Umol? Or maybe I'm just being excessive and should go with the strips and save some good bills. Just not into the DIY thing. :wall:

If its going to be running at an additional 300 watts, thats going to kick the PPFD to almost 1000 uMols/s/m2 - thats about as high as I would want to go. Its certainly not TOO much, but any more than that would be, IMO. Should make for a killer setup.
