id get a fan inside...then at least 2-4 for passive intakes and exhaust.the fan blowing in should be at the bottom..the fan blowing out up top.heat rises..so you want to pull the air out from the top.and a easy way to tell when it needs water is by the pot weight.next time you water it..pick it up..it will be much heavier after being watered.when the pot starts feeling light..its time to water.or you can let it dry out to the point where the leaves start to slightly droop...then water and they will spring back up in a matter of a couple hours.they also have digital moisture meters...but i dont really trust them..unless you get a high cost one..your getting a plastic POS

when the time is right for those puppies to have some more lumies, I would make a hood on top of your light.....cut down your cubic feet....just a thought tho.

After having them at 1.5" from the lights, the plants drooped noticeably, I moved them back to where they were, don't want to scorch these. Also added a boxed fan for ventilation, I can keep the door closed and have it run at 83-84. I think theyre gonna get some water, its been a week since I planted them and theyre feeling light and the soils feeling dry.

if your still having heat issues i would hold off till that taken care of to move them too close...should have mentioned that..my bad

I was gonna try and get a few more, priority number one is getting my temps down so I can put some more heat in there.

1 i would not be giving anything (except water) to those plants until they are a month old unless they ask for it (turn yellowish)
2 i would keep the lights no closer then 4in. that lighter was a good guild
3 i would "LST" rather then doing a "SCROG" same results "lsting" is ezer to work around and that screen will get in the way trust me, and you wont be able to move your plants
4 i would only water when they ask for it, at this age 1ce every 2-3 days (get a cheap digital food scale weight it fully watered then weight it fully dry then you will be able to tell when to water )
5 you will prolly need at least 1 light per plant a 42w then double that when you start to flower

1.thats common sense
2. why would you want to keep then no closer than 4 inches away...the further away the lights are..the more lumens you are losing...as close as it can go without burning it is best.
3.a scrog grow is normaly started with clones...and anyone doing cfl grows should lst.
4.already went over that.
5.he already said he had more lights..just not being used till the heat issue is fixed
and im adding a 6.helps to read the whole thread before tossing in common sense info or stuff already went over...but everyones input helps

heat is definatley the biggest issue you got to work out, im up around 490 watts of cfl and my temps flux like crazy from peak to peak. good luck getting everyhing down.

yeah...cfl's can get hot as hell too..some say they put out no heat..thats true...until you have them in a box with low venting.compared to a hps...they do burn cooler...just need good venting or the ballast heat up

yes everyones input does help except when people offer it just to have someone try to make them look small
that is what keeps a lot of people from putting their neck out to try to help someone no i didnt read all 4 pages i looked at his setup up and offered my advice on it and i didnt say add lights now i said later

i call myself answering some of the op question
i did just glance over the thread
i guess this is the thanks i get for stepping out of the back grounds
if i am answering questions that have been covered this is because of the 100+ threads i am subscribed to on this forum as well as being sub'ed to over 50 + threads over at "club speedy" i have not the time to read whole threads, so what i do is just read the original poster posts (at best) i'm a big fan of cfl grows and have many cfl grows under my belt
but if "djruiner" would prefer me to but out just ask me
and "FYI" this site and every other pot growing related site is full of redundant threads, question, and answers, and type of people
i'm the type of human that when some one ask a question i dont say look it up in FAQ section, or search for a thread that might have covered it, i actually do the leg work for(with) the person, post links, add pictures, answer question 100 times in 100 threads to the same question on the same day no mater how redundant

if something is posted that you dont like or you feel is redundant you dont have to respond to it
someone else may have received help form my post who didn't reed the whole thread ..........

well, there could be a few ways to do this....i took a moment and had a good look at your set up, from your lights, up. i see that you have one cord coming down the middle. That makes this alot easier. What I have found, as stated, CFLs do heat up somewhat. Whatever material you decide to go with, make sure it is light....bristol board from the cheap-o store works well... Myself, i'd measure it up, cut my self two even pieces to slide in on top of my lights. cut a little hole in place for your cord. Mylar the side facing lights, naturally, set that aside.....
Next thing to figure out is how to mount it....simple soloution. most hardware stores have puny L brackets. thats all you need. Our 'everything for a dollar store' has these too....you could use tape.....but I wouldn't to mount it....tooo risky unless you really have to.....
you can, however, run a length of tape around your centre hole to secure your hood, if it already has a sturdy mount...just make sure your cord is secured lol..
Now, i know this sounds quite makeshift, and it is. you could most def make something alot prettier and durable, but this more than does the trick. the bottom line is, Less space used, less lost light. Ensure that you have good ventilation, I would even suggest making slits in the hood to vent if needed. Moving this hood is fast, easy, and pretty cheap to replace . My first hand results will always lead me to making a hood. give it a shot. :)

Makeshift doesnt bother me at all, most of my whole operation is duct tape, styrofoam and cardboard. I'll ghetto rig something that works well enough. Also, i'm gonna be going to goodwills/thrift stores tomorrow to look for some records and ill be keeping an eye out for shit to use in the grow. I'll be hitting at least 3-5 stores so i'll come across a fan, bigger pots and damn near anything I could use in the grow. I'm excited about what I may find. Gonna be a good day, stuff for the grow, random awesome old records, super stoned all day, rad.





And to those all bent out of shape about catching shit about not reading, throw a TLDR before your post and its a nonissue.

As far as a reflector there are a few options depending on how much $$ you want to spend or how handy you are with some tools and wiring. I personally was on a budget when I started my grow with cfls and had a similar wiring setup that you have. Here are the 3 phases I went thru until I was finally happy... hope these help you get some ideas..

This was my first option...then after doing some reading I realized these CFLs give off light all around and I was wasting light going upwards..



So my next choice was to get a 10.5 inch clamp light with reflector for aprx 13$ from home depot. I put in one Y light socket adapter then added 1 additional Y adapter into each one to get a total of 4 cfls under the hood..if you try this route remember to bend the reflector slightly so the bulbs aren't directly touching the aluminum.


Lastly after further research finding out that CFLs perform better when place horizontal rather than vertical I went all out and built this custom diy hood that houses 10 26w cfls. If you decide you would like to build this let me know and i'll send you a parts list and instructions...without the bulbs I think it costed me around 75$

Appreciate the info for sure, one thing though, I always thought cfls worked best vertically? Its very possible that i'm wrong, but I couldve sworn I read that in a few places.


Also, about to go hit up some goodwills and thrift stores, should find some fun shit.
