Looking good for just coming out of the shadows! Digging the coloring..
Topping isn't hard... once you do it you understand the process, and after you understand the process it's very trivial as to why it confused you in the first place..
I don't even tie my plants down, unless I'm trying to keep a main large branch down...
What i usually do (after an hour or so of drinking some water) is ever so slightly bend the branches, or pinch into the skin EVER so slightly so that the plant leans onto the pinched side..... this is how I get fan leaves to stay where I want them, and how I get the branches to reach out more... But if they are dry, or you do it too hard/too much you can puncture the skin of the plant.. you dont want that really, but it won't kill them
When I do this type of training, I notice enlarged and stronger branches... I try to do this below budsites to optimize light and the work the branch how I want it
Occasionally Ill tie down a strong branch so that it doesn't go anywhere
