A-51 led question.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your time. There is soo much info on these led lights and its like its nothing to spend 500$ to 1000$. You could absolutley spend a fortune and still get crap so again many thanks to eraserhead and everyone else for the solid input.

Any idea what the price point might be (ballpark) on the 4x4 A51 light coming out? I'm thinking of buying an AT600 but might hold off if the bigger A51 unit is cheaper.

Running that a51 panel at 120watts will NOT use the cree 630nm xp-e reds/"flower" mode!! so that isn't such a great idea......IF your staying in your very small room dimensions then I also recommend the Hans panel. If later you decide to go bigger just add another panel for $300 or buy two now and save $100 and use it as side lighting....lol.......if it fits.

Remote drivers are okay, some designs call for it, some do not. There's enough room in my housing case for the drivers, and the fans keep those cool as well, they only add about 1°F to the inside housing case temps.

Passive cooling, you'll never see me with a passive cooled LED. 2w of cooling goes a very long way. It's a matter of 25°-30°C vs. 50°+, a huge difference for just a couple of watts. That and the need for a bigger heatsink for passive cooled will increase the materials cost and a lot of extra shipping cost, and still won't be as efficient as a couple watts of fans keeping the LEDs cool. Plus, those fans are super quiet. You need to be right next to them to hear them, and they're still very quiet.

I'm looking at these 140mm fans that move even more air, they are quieter than my current 120mm fans, and use 0.7w each. I bought a few of them, I have some high hopes for them.

Good points^^^ my concern as you know, if the INTERNAL fans are so quiet how are you going to know if it fails?? is their an indicator light that shows a malfunction like the crappy apollos??(not a bad idea actually). Yes active cooling is very effective for the few watts used but if the "active" part starts becoming less effective( dust buildup, fan failure, vent blockage/etc.) those junction temps become a concern(summer grows!!), or NO? Can the panel maintain decent internal temps with just ONE fan operating and those small heatsinks??

This is probably all stupid paranoia by me anyway , what are the failure rates on computer fans nowadays......like >1%

1 fan is enough to keep things cool enough while the other fan is replaced. Even if both fans went out, which is highly unlikely, they're on separate drivers, the LEDs will be okay for the time being.

How often do you check on your plants? Most people check daily. Take a gander at the light when you check on the plants, make sure all is well.

Fan failure is lower than 0.1% Since using those fans, thousands of them, 1 broke in transit, and 1 fan driver failed. They're pretty dependable.

Put it this way, on full blast with no filter connected to it, it is quieter than those POS duct booster fans. Turned down a little and a filter attached, it is barely audible over a circulating fan on LOW.

What's the recommended coverage for the XGS-190? Is it the 32"x32" listed on the site? I've seen in another thread that 2 panels was suggested for a 4'x4' space and other mentions that there is an A51 panel coming out with legit 3'x3' coverage.

Specifically, I'm wondering what the recommended coverage is for use in a larger space, rather than a tent. Say 12'x16' - would I need like a million panels for this?

Wow, that fan is pretty awesome... I got one of those Soler & Palau TD-Silent inline fans about a year ago, that looks like the same concept... If that is indeed the case, they truly are worth the extra money (especially when the grow is in your bedroom) As other people have already said, I feel your area is far too short for an Area-51. Those things are pretty powerful! I usually keep mine 18-24" off the tops in veg, or they just don't have any stretch to them. We're talking 1/2" between internodes, which means tons of defoliation, etc., you get the idea.

Off topic, but I think most will be interested.

The cube is something I have wanted to get made as an internal tent frame onto which stems can be tied and controlled. A year later...

Bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond. Alas, not available online. I had to drive 22 miles out of my way to the only store that had it! The dowels are pretty flimsy (trip to hobby store solves that), but the ball connectors are adaptable to stronger dowels. Retail is $19.99 but 20% off coupons are readily available. With strong dowels, the frame should handle led panel lyig on top, which would save room lost to hanging kits

I'm thinking 2 @ 85 is better, unless you know your phenos/clones are going to be all the same.

Here's 4 current clones (same F1) but 2 are ~ 10" shorter than the other two, so 2 @ 85 would be the ticket. I am using a combination of 2 ufos (3000 +5000) + 2 ~ 3000K ~ 16w led tubes over the shorter clones

I like your cube idea. I wonder if you can make them air tight and then chain them together similar to a RDWC system (but with air). You could then have a control box where Co2, humidity and temp are measured and controlled. If it worked it would be pretty cool.

Mr. Eraserhead, I am about to order a hans panel as you suggested. But are you certain that area51 is indeed going to come out with a 90w light in January like you mentioned? If so i'd rather wait and get that one.

Any update on the smaller light? I read another post where you mentioned a modular light to cover 12x12", could be connected to create a larger footprint. Is that the 85w you mention above?
