AN trio is probably my favorite nute...but its stupid expensive.

If you are growing 4 plants who cares...but when you ratchet up to a bunch dry salts are the best way to do it (Price driven).

You pay for all nutes no water.

UPDATE (2 years later)

I ran full line of AN and it was stupidly over priced and diluted. I since then started trying different lines including House & Garden (good but still pricey), Heavy 16 (trash, bad quality smoke but good yield), Green Planet and now I use CYCO complete line now and you only need like 1/3 the amount at 1/2 the price. I ran Advanced Nutrients for 2 years and learned that a lot of their products are crap for what you're paying, most of the bottles are 90%+ water.

Wanted to just put Advanced Nutrients on blast that they are definitely scummy and over priced for what you get. I was unaware until I tried other products and realized how diluted and overpriced Advanced Nutrients were. Never will I run their stuff again.

BIG BUD is just protein powder with a bit of potassium sulfate & potassium phosphate.... "AMINO ACIDS" are the same shit you will find in literal protein powder from walmart except you can buy a 1 pound tub for 20 dollars..

Hydrolyzed Whey Protein IN PLANTS :

Did you know that Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Food Grade Amino Acid is the secret ingredient behind:

  • Advanced Nutrients - Big Bud.
  • House & Gardens - Amino Acid Treatment.
  • Heavy 16 Prime
Just like any body builder needs a lot of QUALITY protein after a workout, so can be said about your plants after a day of working out and pushing out/up all those buds!

All Pk boosters have the same ingredients, and they do the same thing, BOOST THE PK. The only differences between the different brands, are HOW MUCH PK THEY BOOST.

But, there seems to be a booster that is very popular and has been around for a very long time...

That's right it's Dr. Hornsby's Big Bud Fyi Advance Nutrients just bought the rights to the product. THEY DIDN'T CREATE IT.

Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Food Grade Amino Acid Powder is suitable for preparation of fertilizer blends and for production of liquid fertilizers, but once added to water, Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Food Grade Amino Acid is like milk and it will spoil. This isn't an issue if you add the powder directly to your reservoir, but if you make concentrates that will sit around for months, your concentrate WILL spoil.

The manufacturers of these amino acid boosters are able to keep Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Food Grade Amino Acid Powder in solution by adding methylparaben to it. Methylparaben is a strong "arguably" very poisonous preservative found in most of the processed foods we eat and drink today. They use 2 grams of methylparaben per liter, along with other preservatives, so that the Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Food Grade Amino Acid Powder will not spoil in solution.

As a responsible solution, we've decided to remove it from our early PK booster, and sell it in powdered form only. This allows for the gardener, or farmer, to use Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Food Grade Amino Acid Powder throughout all phases of growth. For less than $15, you can treat up to 1800 gallons of feed water! That's a fraction of the cost compared to the hydro stores versions.

Don't you find it ironic that you started this thread 2 years ago raving about AN and now you're calling it a scam? But you're right. Too bad you gave them a bunch of your money before realizing it. Live and learn.

Yes I know that is why I'm coming back to edit it. I've learned a lot and definitely one thing is that their nutrients are overpriced and diluted.
I can't edit the original thread since its from 2019.

I like you started with Advanced, as a beginner it does what it's supposed to do. I takes away the PH worries. Any beginner can used Advanced without worry. So they can worry about other grow related issues and learn. I use Advanced and have no problem with it. I can say that as time goes by and I learn more I know that I will move on from it. At least you mentioned what you chose to use next. My question is how long or how many grows have you used Cyco on? I've seen it before and avoided it because it's like trading one 16 bottle crumb trail for another. How much would you estimate you honestly saved, $10, $20, $40? Did your saving include the cost of a PH pen and other PH products? What abut convenience? I can fill a 12 gallon reservoir an go on vacation for a week without PH worries, can I do that with Cyco? I'm not defending Advanced I just really want to know. I want to know what benefits are there to make a switch worthwhile. I can do without the cost and its full of water argument, that part is given.

Mate credit to ya for coming on an admitting that ya had no idea 2 years ago. Most people would never come back to the thread.

AN is still priced the same as other brands locally, most of the stuff people rave about I'd have to import from somewhere. No thanks.

It's not so much a scam as simply exploitive, and it's terrible for the environment to ship those bottles around. It's fertilizer, absolutely nothing special about it. AN is like buying bottled water from Fiji. Most people who stick to growing eventually either end up using powdered inorganic fertilizers or organic living soil, I like both. The complete lack of transparency in their ingredients is also a bit scummy.

Where I'm at AN is middle ground. You can find cheaper and you can buy more expensive. AN is convenient with no ph worries. A good choice for a beginner.

I live in a flat, I don't have a garage or a shed to mix hundreds of liters of soil ingredients. I grow in small tents with small pots, living soil is simply not an option.

I've been growing for 14 years. I don't miss any of the "pro" stuff.

You came full circle and also came to same conclusion every other grower thats ever been sucked into marketing hype has. And there's no shame in that and you're now a better grower because of it. We've all done it at one point or another.

Why hate use what you use and spread the word. Everyone is going to try new things in the garden cause it's always a learning experience. Happy Growing

I for one greatly appreciate this entire thread. I love seeing people reveal their "truths" ---- what he's saying isn't true for everyone, lots of people love AN and their pretty labels (I for one love their label art) but I respect a person's opinion as it applies to their practice. You aren't just "talking shit", it's a genuine opinion based on experience.

I personally use General Hydroponics nutrient because I get great results, haven't had any issues at all and I don't pretend they're something that they're not, i realize they're a mineral based "conglomerate" product, but I'm too new to be fucking around with weird products, lol. I do want to try Canna Coco at some point. Dutch Pro looks great too.

Anyways, thanks for posting this
