Advice on some nutes

I have only used advanced nutrients ph perfect GMB and was wondering. Are there any nutes just as good but cheaper? I don’t mind ph my own water with ph down and adding nutes if that’s all ph perfect does

Thanks in advance.

Setup is 5g dwc

Mega Crop. I just started using it in soilless but will try it in DWC one of these days.

I've used AN for almost 20 years and still have lots of it left. The 3-part is no more expensive than others and you don't need all that other junk but some Big Bud and Rhino Skin if you want silica. Anybody's CalMag will do and Epsom salts are cheap.

Running low? ;)

Wouldn’t recommend megacrop in dwc. It runs far too dirty.

Really? Seems to completely dissolve in water for me. I do my DWC in single Rubbermaid tubs and there's no tubes or emitters to get plugged up with anything if there was anything.

The list of goodies in it seems quite impressive but I only got mine on Monday. I won some in a recent contest here for us Canadian growers. I've been growing in soilless the last couple years but have done about 50 DWC grows since '01.

Worth trying when I get around to it I think.

Yes. AN isn't anything special. The only thing that sets them apart from most other companies is the money they spend on marketing and their fancy labels. And the fact that they leave things out of their base nutes so they can sell you the other dozen bottles of products they have on their feeding charts. But other companies have followed their lead.

If you're using chemical based nutrients all you need is calcium nitrate, monopotassium phosphate, and a micronutrient blend. I use VitaGrow which is just that in three parts. Cheap as hell and is as good as ANY AN product for a fraction of the price. The only other things I add is a couple doses of magnesium sulfate "epsom salts" and potassium sulphate a few weeks into flower.

It leaves muck all over res. I’d imagine it do the same to the buckets making it a breeding ground for bacteria.

I use AN but if I was gonna switch I’d go with floraflex nutes. Also I don’t find AN to be that expensive but I don’t buy hardly any additives any more, I used to but as I ran out and didn’t use em and noticed no difference. So now I just use base nutes and big bud. And I do use a small amount of bud igniter but I really like it even if it is pricey, I always just get small bottle anyways cause don’t use very much at all.

Now I have to try it in DWC! lol

I use a DIY chiller to keep the temps down to 65F just so those bad bacteria don't grow in there.

No great loss if it doesn't work. Losing a few clones in pursuit of knowledge is little to pay. I start my clones in soilless promix and always have a bunch of that on the bottom of my tubs that stays for the whole grow and hasn't caused problems before.

Thanks for the heads up tho.

i had major pH troubles with MC. would go up to the 6's then plummet into the low 5's.

I've tried the Bud Ignitor and didn't notice any difference doing a side by side so sure won't buy it again. Got a 500ml jug of the Bud Factor X for free almost two years ago but haven't really done an experiment with it. Used some but had a pollination boo boo and spider mites with that grow so sure can't use that to judge. lol

Gallon jugs of the 3-part cost me $40 each so sure isn't expensive. Gallons of GH were $50 and damned if I'll support Scotts/Hawthorne.Monsanto/Bayer by buying anything belonging to them.

I just use the 3-part, Big Bud and a bit of Rhino Skin from AN. Any old CalMag will do.

I really like never having to check pH. Just mix the nutes and dump it in with DWC or potted plants.

u should run your hydroponics like river, organic and full of good bacteria.

A filter should be dirty with good bacteria, not clinically clean depending if you run a live or dead res.

Really? They claim it's pH stable and I've been feeding it to plants in soilless this week without checking the pH. I guess I should dust off my pH pen and see what's up. I only use RO water so don't need to bother checking it's pH.

My largest plant will need a feed in the next couple days so will check the pH before feeding it the MC.

there was about 4 or 5 of us that had the same problems. i think it was because of aeration via waterfall in my stand alone feed res. i'd set at 5.8 , would stay there for a day or 2, then up to the mid 6's and by the 4 or 5th day would be high 4's low 5's. MC tried to help me figure it out but nothing helped.

just keep an eye on it if your setup is similar.

I've always run sterile tubs. I used to use peroxide then built a chiller out of a water cooler so stopped that practice. IMO organics and bacteria are for dirt farmers.

That video has nothing to do with DWC so what's the point of it? He's just making his own liquid fertilizer to feed plants grown in soil outdoors. Totally different than an indoor hydro grow.

Thanks for the effort tho.

Good to know. Thanks.

I do my DWC in separate tubs with air stones. Whether that will make a difference or not I'll have to find out I guess.

I have one strain that bud ignitor has an undeniable effect on so I continue to use it I haven't noticed the same effect on other cuts I run but to think of it I haven't really checked I have just run this one cut enough to really notice the difference
Was in a hurry when posted this but yeah bud ignitor at least for my critical kush cut has a noticeable effect on bud setting earlier I've been shocked at 14 days they looked the size of 21 day buds I normally get
