airstone + soil???

so i was reading something about someone wanted to put an airstone into their soil to see if it would aerate the roots and boost the plants growth but the thread stopped after that. anyone ever get curious and perform an experiment? i would be really curious to see the results. i found one thread that a guy did an experiment like this but ahd no pictures on it anymore and coudnt really gather anything from it without the pics.

Been there, done that...(5 years ago though) Didn't work out like you might think. Ended up creating a huge dry pocket in the soil, and later on after it was watered heavily the airstone clogged up real bad.
Experiment Summary = Airstones+soil+water=clogged airstones.

...common sense tells me that an air stone in soil wouldn't work, the airstone would get clogged. The best plan of attack with soil is to bubble your water before you apply, imo.

...if you want an arid medium like that there's other options.Go hydro. I'm really into the ebb'n flow atm using hydroton....the res has a bubbler 24/7 going...my beds flood 3 times a day pushing all the old air out of my hydroton and pulling new air in, each flood...sounds like a plants dream condition to me.

Cynics criticize while winners analyze! No you cannot use air stones in soil. You can use an aquarium pump attached to long pvc tubes with many small holes punched in them. It really only works in a bed though so if you using pots it gets tricky. if you pots sit on the ground you can use a boobie pot or air pruning pot to increase o2

How often do you change out your nutrient solution? I was doing it every 2 weeks, and found the ebb-n-flow to be a real pain in the balls. Draining 200+ gallons, refilling 200+ gallons, scrubbing trays, scrubbing reservoirs, scrubbing pumps, scrubbing tubing ................ soil is so much easier!!

Most of these guys are right, it will clog the shit out of your air stone. I have done this and my stone never clogged...but there is a trick. I got the Idea from a member on here, that i havent seen post for some time now. the idea worked great too.

What i did was get a small sponge from walmart and ran the stone through the sponge. This blocked the dirt from clogging the stone and allowed constant aeration to the root system. Didnt have any dry spots in the soil and it drained properly. The plant i tested this way came out a male, how ever it was over 2 months old was in LST form and had 9 13'' tops and this was all in a one gal pot So yeah it works just have to experiment a little.

another question as well, anyone ever try supplementing B vitamins to their plants? i figured since tis supposed to increase metabolism in humans could it possible have a similar effect on plants?

a friend of a friend has a bagseed under one desklamp cfl. she feeds it some kind of nutes and a multivitamin. it may be the vitamin B but i hear its growin good. i saw a pic when it was just starting to grow

i keep telling people, if you want maximum oxygen in your water,(without adding hydrogen peroxide) get an aquarium with a fast jet or filter and use that, the water not only will quickly dissipate any chlorines/chloromines but also oxygenate the water to the point of saturation, if you want to make it even better get some fat cheap "feeders" which are fat goldfish that are bred to be eaten by other fish, stick them in the tank, they shit alot, which is also good for your water, for the plants that is... try it, you won't go back, especially if you are using soil.

So your saying while waiting to feed water to your plants throw some fish in a ? Did you pour the fish in the soil also LoL? Poor guys LoL jk
