Any tips for my planned setup

Hello,
I am planning a first grow after a lot of research but I am sure I am missing something. My plan is for a 2x4x5 tent. I want to do three high yield sativa in 5# smart pots with lst, topping, and sog to keep short enough. I was thinking of using a 100 watt(draw) led for start of veg to keep electricity down and switch to 320 watt(draw) and maybe the 100 as well for the rest. Im sticking to fox farm ocean forest soil and advanced nutrients after a couple weeks. Does all of that sound like a solid plan?

My only suggestion would be stay strict on the training and or use a scrog net, growing sativas can get stretchy and with only 5` in height, by time you takeaway lights and pot height, your gonna lack vertical space.

Yeah I agree with @diggs99 the 5 foot tent is better suited to shorter strains so you will need to be diligent with the training. You have light height, pot height, plant height and space between plants and light.

Make a diagram of your vertical space, do the math and see whats gonna be left for plants then it's up to you to make them fit.

I'm sorry I put sog, I meant I planned on using scrog net to keep the height down. If I do well at spreading the stems out, roughly when should I flip to flower? Would it be when it 1/2 way up the tent? I'm not familer how far they shoot up after veg. Again I appreciate the help.

If you can swing it....get a bigger (taller, for sure) tent (sativa?)...buy a good LED or small HID/etc. The ladies will only offer back what you give them. Not gonna get massive yields with small spaces/inadequate lighting.....and from experience...I know you will spend good money and then do a run or two and want to upgrade all of it and will re-spend once again on the things you prolly shoulda bought in the first place. I'm guessing other guys here can back this up. It only takes one grow to see that weed takes far more space than you ever thought it would.

But either way....good luck with yer grow!

I'm sadly stuck to the 5 feet so might look at hybrids since I prefer sativa. Would it be beneficial to drop to 2 plants with scrog to keep height lower? Or even with spreading out as much as possible and flowering earlier it will still max out height?

Hi Anon,
I'm a sativa fan too. Never grown in a tent so hard to comment on that.

Did want to offer an idea that sprouted from by brain yesterday. I have a batch of seedlings that are my first attempt at Nugbucket/Nebula style manifold training. While I was checking them...I realized that this would be a great way to do a scrog. Keeping the manifold low and keep training for 8 colas...except fitting them into screen. I'm sure it's been done. You could keep things manageable heightwise...

Probably best to consider a hybrid that's sat leaning. Full on sativa would be super hard (if not impossible) in a 5' tent. C-99 type would be doable.
Good luck,
JD

I grew in a crawlspace with 4 ft height restrictions for 15 years. Did a lot of SOG but also did some SCROG as well. I once did a one plant...4 x 4 screen grow under a 600 hps that yielded 14 ounces. I wove every square of that screen and it was a nice, tight, level canopy when finished. It was very tight though...but you have another foot or so...so it is doable.

I'd still focus on more light/the future if I could afford it. There are guys doing DIY LED/Cob lights for relatively cheap $$$ for the light they get out of them...and heat would not be an issue.

One good light and a good sativa/hybrid all wound through a screen can do some damage. Too many plants/more plants doesn't always mean more yield if all conditions aren't right.

Best of luck however you decided to run.

Yeah 5ft height makes it difficult but not impossible.
Be strict with training and tucking and keep shit low profile.
Don't forget to take into account pot height, light distance from plants when stretched, filter and fan and light distance from roof of tent, since you don't want it touching the top of the roof if your not using a filter that is.
Its will take practice but you will get used to it.

Will it hurt yield if I switch to flower as soon as i get the stems to mostly fill up tent width? If I can keep them low enough with training. I am hoping to utilize ScrOG, manifold, and lst. Though I may try some shorter strains first to get used to training.

Starting flower too soon always hurts yield, the trick is knowing when it's too soon. Some strains stretch a lot and others don't. Takes a run or two with a cut to learn the proper flip time to get the most out of your space and not over do it. So better to err on the side of caution the first run.

Not a bad plan at all, but I would recommend trying and Indica or a hybrid for first grow. Sativas can take a long time depending on the strain, and also be temperamental....just a suggestion best of luck

I have settled on Somango xxl, also I switched to a 240w Chinese "quantum" board. I've ordered everything and I am excited to start as soon as everything arrives. Thanks for the help!
