Anybody else put items inside their weed soil 5 gal bucket

I bought the expensive fox farm ocean soil and I put it in a 5 gallon container along with some jugs of plastic waters and other things so the buckets were pretty light and I only used two bags. It’s a couple bags of that soil and a bunch of basically plastic but I think this will allow the air to breathe Better in the soil. I have two northern lights and one green gelato are doing really good. Has anybody ever put things in their buckets to save money on soil? And provide air pockets

No. Seems like a very bad idea. You are robbing your plant of root space. In soil you can assume your going to have 3x as much growth under ground as you see above ground if your plant is healthy. Your plants are probably so small because the roots hit plastic and stopped growing, or they became potbound quickly. If you don't want to deal with the cost of soil switch to dwc
 
Why would you even want to do this? There is no point in using 5 gallon containers if you're trying to cheap out by not using the available volume. Plastic containers inside will do shit to 'aerate' the soil, FF already has plenty of perlite and drains well. I use Ocean Forest and also EB Stone 420 soil, multiple 10 to 15 gallon pots. Not cheap but I get what I pay for.
 
If you would like to use 3 gallons of soil in a 5 gallon pot, either leave room at the top or save yourself the headache and use a 3 gallon pot.

Or as others have mentioned, buy perlite and mix it in.

Your probably doing the exact opposite of what you think when it comes to "the air breathing in the soil" as you say. Dirt by the laws of nature is porous. Plastic is not. You have all types of air flow shields in your soil...
 
If it took 2 bags to fill 5 gallons, you must be buying 12 qt bags, very expensive! Try to find 1,5 cu ft. Bags or better yet 3cu ft bags, it’s a lot cheaper. I pay $12 for a 1,5 cu ft. Bag, $22 for a 3cu ft bag of FFOF.
 
I use 15 gal GroPro Injection Molded pots for 70/30 Coco/Perlite. You're going to have problems growing in a 5 gal with Dirt. I used to use 25 gallon pots for soil and being a basement grower, fuck that.

What your source? Local market for me is twice that price across the board. Hydro, home improvement, and garden stores have 1.5 for $27 and 2foot bags of happy frog for $29.

Soil outlet in off Todd Road in Santa Rosa Ca. They’ve got 50 different types of bag soil, and a grow shop too. I’ve never seen a 2 cu ft bag of FFOF.
 
I put my seed plant's in bucket's works good when you can tend to them H F O V i have to mix it it will not hold water at all. Water bead's will help.But only get so big that is why i use them for my seed plant's.Knowing it won't get big.Great for seed plant. Dixie
