Anyone Know About Car Audio?

I`d go with the Sony one and hope its higher quality with its CD intake and detachable front panel to be honest. Your choice!

Your best off reading reviews or asking someone who deals in them to get a solid answer but the JVC ones I had seemed to break pretty easily :) I say pick the Xplod! Read ratings first though

I would go with any JVC over any Sony. I know that Sony car audio is sub par in every way to every other brand. This was because of their inability to perfect an anti-skip system and proper placement of the eye of the laser. The audio quality is also on the lower end as peak wattage is rather low, and when you are looking to run an amp off the deck you want to have a higher amperage for the sub out line.. The JVC's are fine in comparison but still a lower end deck. I say put in that extra O.T or wait another couple of pays to save another 50 bucks and grab yourself a cheaper alpine or clarion much better in my experience. Hope this helps and good luck!

Honestly, If I were you, id take the money you were gonna go spend at bestbuy or walmart, and go to a flea market or a stereo shop. Not only will someone be more equipped and more knowledgeable than walmart or BB, they usually have better deals on better name brand products, plus they usually do free installs, and no offense but it sounds like your still learning about car stereo stuff. I mean, sony is ok I guess, Ive had a couple sonys before without complaint, but you can probably get a nice pioneer for for the same price as one of those sonys or jvc's. just my .02

I have not been into car audio for about a year and a half - I lost me truck a while ago.

I used to do some competing and had nearly 10k invested in the stereo alone. For good sound you will have to spend close to 1k in my opinion to get anything decent. Make sure you do some pre-maintenance before you put a sub in any car. The vibrations will destroy anything. Dyno-mat the trunk with a minimum of one layer will stop that annoying rattling sound and help save inner parts from falling apart. I would get some loc-tight - thread locker and use it on as much as you can. Once a few bolts come loose you will never stop the rattling. I have always been a fan of loud nice sounding cars. I can not stand it when kids put a sub in a car un-tuned and pound the shit out of it. Just sound like shit.

I had 3 layers of dynomat throughout the entire truck - actually stripped it too bare metal pulling every interior piece out including the dash. Prep makes a huge difference.

As for a head unit I would suggest spending a little more and investing in something that will work for you. A cheap head unit does not allow you to program the eq to best suit your setup. Not sure if you are going to power just the sub with an amp or just the head unitr. If you are powering every speaker with an amp then spending a few 100 on a head unit is well worth it.

I always liked pioneer never had an issue with them - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Pioneer+-+50W+x+4+MOSFET+Apple%26%23174%3B+iPod%26%23174%3B-Ready+In-Dash+CD+Deck+with+MP3+Playback/2822336.p?id=1218354573849&skuId=2822336

You get what you pay for
Both are a bit more pricey but would be a better option in my opinion.

edit: if you don't want to do alot of prep work at the minimum please please put cork or rubber weather stripping around your license plate to stop the rattling

Why else would you get a sub?
If you're gunna quote me and be a smart ass don't delete the important part...
I said "I can not stand it when kids put a sub in a car un-tuned and pound the shit out of it. Just sound like shit."

Have you ever sat in a car that has a properly tuned stereo? A very big difference between a good setup and a shit setup. Why spend money on something that's going to sound like shit and break down in a year when you can invest a little more and have it last for many years?

You can spend 1000's on a system and it can sound like a $100 system if it's not setup right or you can spend 100's and have it sound like a system worth 1000's if its setup the right way.

I sent a buddy their way and he burnt 4 subs with negligence. He called and shipped them back in the original boxes and got 4 brand new ones a week later.

see the only problem with the 100 subs in the truck is negative pressure causing some subs to contort and beat off key and muffle sound waves. If you have enough free flowing air than gravy, but that rarely ever happens. I like it to sound like a symphony weather im listing to Beethoven, Screw, or even that robot sex music I cant think of what its called. Oh yea.. Dubb step lol.
