Are enviro lights a better choice than hps in terms of cost to opperate
I am either considering a 400w hps sys or a 250w envirolight sys. How much less does it cost to run an evirolight vs an hps sys? Can envirolite yeild good bud?

less money, less results.
not necessarily...

i use flouro's for veg; hid's are a waste of money for small plants. imo, cfl's aren't the best unless you can make a really good reflector, but tubes are great. they're cool enough that the plants can actually touch the bulbs with no burns ;)

for flower, hid is the way to go if you're not using the sun....

i love idiots.. hids are Hps ..... and basicly hps is more efficient with your electricity but its higher watts are wasted on small plants because how much light can a 2 inch plant really use... so buy a few cheap cfls to veg and then use hps for flowering...

how about t5's Ive seen some with red spec bulbs for flowering are they good for buds?

yes you can get good results from many types of lighting..... its really based on your preferance's and needs lemme give you an example... if heat is an issue then you might be better off with t5's or cfls... but if u just want the most effective light then use MH/Hps ....... t5's or cfls will grow/flower a plant fine if u have enought. but the efficiency is far less then an hps.... with a cfl or floro you might get
50 lumens for every watt it uses but with an
hps you would prolly get around 100 lumens for every watt.
so a t5 and a hps that use the same energy the hps will put out alot more lumens
lumens = stuff that your plant use's lumens = good

LOL
thx
so a 400w hps will yeild more bud faster than a 4x4 t5
ok fine
but will there be a big difference in my electric bill?
I hear a 400w hps is way more expensive than a 4x4 t5 setup

how many t5 bulbs are you talking about each bulb is 54 watts, watts cost the same weather they are used by a t5 or a 400,so what are you asking.

ok well here's what hes saying.... a 400 watt hps will use as much as a t5 that has enough bulbs to total 400 watts no diffrence in price... the only diffrence is the hps will put out alot more lumens/growing power..... as for how much it costs... you can search an internet calculator for the exact cost just put in the watts..how many hours a day. how many days a month and how much u get electricity for and it will give you exact cost's..... i dont run an hps so i dont know... but ive herd people say it cost relitivly little... a single 400 watt hps ive herd is between 5-20............ either way you could most likly offset the cost of the hps with energy smart tactic's..... turn lights off when you leave.... turn water heater lower.... turn off computer/ect when not been used... mabe replace bulbs with cfls... any of this should offset it to were its almost not noticible... keep in mind its 400 watts... several things in your house use alot more energy then that.. a single light fixture 4 bulbs each 60 watts is 240.... so its not that bad
