Are MMJ patients paying illegal prices?

well here's the trick.

If you did that it would run kind of rampant for a while. that would be on par with legalization. It would make weed (for most people) essentially free. But hell, I'm down.

ASA is chicken shit and no more official than any other pro-mj site. Pretty much just a bunch of whiners who want something for nothing.
I started a thread over there a while back, and they closed it for my protection!
Just another waste of bandwidth.

well if u ask me club prices are too high that should be illegal. but sumbody gots to do it.

don't get me wrong i appreciate the best herb, but id rather grow it for 25 cents a gram instead of $25.

one of the local clubs had sum "blue dragon"but it was selling for like 70 1/8. i got suckered cuz it was just sum mendo purps that was just alright.

some of this outdoor stuff should be alot cheaper though like 175 -200 a zip that would be respectable imo

I think they're actually paying more. I'm sure the quality of weed is superior, but It's tough to find anything in my area more than $60 an eighth. Hell, when I lived in AK it was $40 an 1/8th for the best shit on the planet. Personally and humbly, I've spent some time living in both Cali and Alaska, and Cali weed can't touch Alaskan weed. Wasn't even close. 'Course I wasn't medical and couldn't get the really good shit, but the thing is in Alaska there wasn't anything but the really good shit.

What was the thread about? There are a bunch of whiners for sure but Don Duncan is very articulate and doing a lot in the push for legalization.

Something to do with the issue of getting the best product to those who need it without the grower having to hunt/beg for clients, I think. You know, those who have actually been growing for decades having to do auditions. I don't care to be a "caregiver" but certainly could help fill the need.
I see no reason to expose what I've been up to since 65' simply to supply legal-ish MMJ.
Not everyone who grows deals, and I know a few folks I consider master cultivators who just won't help if they have to lose their anonymity.

These guys think that medical marijuana should be $25 an ounce but they don't want to grow it themselves. What a bunch of shit. Speak up growers!
whats your point? How can lower prices for medicine for the sick be a bad thing? You almost sound like one of the pharma companies or hopsitals that like to charge 5.00 for a tylenol.. Air, rain, dirt and sunlight are free..25.00 and oz sounds good to me.

As a provider to a MMJ dispensary, I'm concerned. We are in a legal grey area still. There are a lot of costs associated with cultivation including potentially a huge legal bill, not to mention electricity and nutes. Air, rain, dirt and sunlight are free. Most growers aren't free to use them. Also, I spend at least 30 hours a week working on the plants. I couldn't be compensated a reasonable amount for my time @ $25 an ounce. Do you grow? Would you spend 30 hours a week and charge $25 an ounce?

i see wat u mean i thought u meant u didnt wanna pay 25$ a ounce

i do agree then that it shouldnt be that much because i do grow and would be upset if thats all people were buying for because i agree

u have to pay electric bill , nutes , water , soil, fans., exhaust , and lots more plus all the time and effort so yes then i agree with this thread that it shouldnt be 25 dollars and ounce.... at least 100$ per ounce because thats still pretty cheap

i grow my own for this reason....prices. if it were cheaper to buy it i would, although now i do enjoy growing and would probably keep doing it as a hobby. but they can sell it for what people are willing to pay....whatever the market demands are. if everyone had a personal op going it would drive market prices down, simple economics..supply and demand. then who'd be crying about prices? dispensaries and dealers.. not consumers thats for sure!

right but if they lower prices to 25 per ounce then the people who are growing it are going to get pissed and are not going to grow it for anyone else they will not be caregivers because they will be losing tons of money due to all of the things they have to pay for like i mentioned above

most of the people that are complaining about prices haven't or won't grow. That's what pisses me off.

Can.i.buz, it sounds like your main gripe would be with current law in California. However, that's an issue for the legislators. The guidelines are arguably specific about how to calculate the cost of MJ. Unfortunately, most of the co-ops, collectives, or dispensaries are purchasing MJ from individuals other than within their group, and charging prices that are not rationally related to the costs and overhead it took to cultivate.

I think if you calculate the costs of growing the MJ, you will find $25/oz to be more in line with the guidelines. Like it or not, you do not get to turn growing MJ into a profit based business. Well, not legally anyway. Maybe that's what you're upset about?

thats the effect for dealers. if your a caregiver your more worried about the care the patient gets, if they can get the same care for cheaper you should be elated. i would be. if your more concerned with profit whats that make you an insurance co. or profittaker instead of caregiver. no better than big pharmaceutical co. that we all see too many comericials to talk to our dr. for their crap.

25 $ wont even pay for the electric bill dude thats not a reasonable price think about it i wouldnt even care if i made a profit just would like to get the money back that i use to grow thats all

thats big pharmas excuse too..........

green energy will fix that
buy a solar panel and a bank of batteries, pay for itself then free energy.
you'll figure out how to provide if its in your heart to provide.

exactly.. MMJ is not ( or should I say SHOULD NOT ) be a for profit "buisness".. Thats one of the reasons why patients choose MMJ over Pharma drugs.. I think there should be designated MMJ growing facilities that supply legit MMJ dispensaries.. The designated grow ops will of course need to be supervised and regulated either on the city/state or federal level.. I believe that a tax of some sort is also logical if it is within reason ( not to exceed local state sales tax on food items .. Why food items? Because as we all know, the tax on alcohol and cigs are insane ).. But I do feel privately liscensed MMJ dispensaries and caregivers should be allowed to grow and sell there own, but again I feel the price definately needs to be regulated.. If there were regulated grow ops and dispensaries that delt directly with doctors and patients ( just like a pharmacy, doc writes a script and you go to get it filled and pay a FLAT FEE/PRICE ) along with the privately ran ops and dispensaries, at least patients could choose if they wanted the $25.00 OZ of "regulated" MMJ or the 400.00 OZ of "unergulated" MMJ.. I feel that the ability to have a choice is always a good thing.. MMJ is still "new" so I am sure there are alot of rough areas and grey areas that will be worked out eventually before we finally settle on the best method of getting patients the MMJ they wasnt and need.Just my opinion..

The AG's guidelines state that cultivators/caregivers/collectives are allowed "reasonable compensation" for the growing member since not all members can or want to cultivate. The question is, what's reasonable? Do you want someone dedicating a majority of their time providing medicine or the guy that threw some seeds in his back yard and let nature take it's course. Or worse yet, someone that doesn't have the dedication necessary and ends up using pesticides, non organic nutes, and fillers?
