Many wonder about this question. From what I've read 3000k gives more stretch but still grows very good plants from what I've seen, and might be more suited to indicas. 4000k wont give your plants to much stretch so might be better suited for sativas. As to whether which gives more yield, better quality etc, no ones can answer for sure.

There are a few guys growing side by side,which is interesting to follow, I know GG is one. I think it also comes down to personal preference, some love the results 3000k gives, and some love 4000k. I think 3500k might be a good compromise between the 2, and get the best of both.

Who else has been testing different spectrums? Would like to see someone else's results
 
I've played around with with red levels using T5 HO specialty bulbs including bulbs that were mostly 630,660 and some mostly blues and UV and LEDs and found my yields higher with more red and frostier with less. I even did a side by side with a A51 RW against a 3000k Onyx with more watts and the RW out yielded it. We're not talking drastic but noticeable amounts. Picking the spectrum depends on what your looking for,I'm going to do a 3500k build using CXB3590's and see if it's the sweet spot for what I like. I would prefer a single k COB over mixing them.
 
A51 is not showing the RW's on the site anymore, just the W90's. RIP RW?

The 3000k and 5000k are now being offered, and it says they will ship in 2-3 weeks on pre-orders, the 4000k's say 4-5 weeks.

I can think of two reasons why that would be the case. Either, (A) they finished up the 4000k pre-orders and switched production to 3000 and 5000k, and won't get back to producing 4000k for a few weeks... or... (B) they are having trouble getting 4000k chips, and have them back ordered.

If its A, that would imply that all the initial pre-orders are produced and are in the process of being shipped. If it's B, then at least for some people it will be another month before they see their pre-ordered 4000k.

Unless someone from A51 confirms one way or the other, we'll never know.
 
I have been testing 3000K 3500K and 4000K in flowering. The 3500K hardly looks different but the 4000K is noticeably bluer. I had no complaints about the lady that finished under the 4000K. I was worried it might be leafier or lower yielding but it turned out just fine and the frosting/flavor was very good, although it was very good under 3000K as well.

Currently the 3500K and 4000K are available in the same bin so I figure might as well go with the 3500K and get more umol/s/W. On the other hand they are pretty wide bin range so the 3500K might be closer to the minimum value and the 4000K could be closer to the top of the range.

So it would seem in my guessing, "B" is closer to what happened, and if I don't receive my lights within a week or so, I won't be seeing them for a month or more. Thanks for the update, its great to have someone here who has an inside view of things.

So they are no longer "assembled" in the U.S.? Just curious, if so, they need to update their "FAQ" on the website.

"Q: Where are your lights made?
A: The housing case and heat sinks are made in China. The LEDs were made, purchased (from Digikey or Mouser) and soldered in the USA. Drivers and fans come from China. All assembly is done is the USA. "
 
They updated their FAQ (in regards to location of assembly and other info pertaining specifically to the W90's), and they also got more specific about their ship dates on the initial pre-order based on the dates the orders were placed. That is very, very helpful. Much appreciated.

I actually did a flower run like that. Initially it was purely supposed to be a veg light but I decided what the hell and flowered under it as well.
I have12 CXA3070. 6 are 3k and 6 are 5k. Driven at 1.4a in a staggered alternating pattern. I noticed there was much better trichomes and girth underneath the 3k.
This is now my dedicated veg light as I felt there isn't nearly enough red in 5k chips to flower under, even with 3k's in between. Awesome veg light though!
