Disappointing to hear they are going belly up, I have 4 W-90's that have served
me well. I am getting ready to upgrade them to Gen7 chips.
For more lights I am looking at Northern and Timber!
Although I am happy with my area 51 purchases I will buy no more
because they are not honoring their warranties for other members.
Sad on their part.

I own 4 a51s and have had no trouble, all different models including a w90. Still use them in veg and cover a little more space if needed. Next best thing to cobs. Needed an update and bought a Northern Photon 180 cu1818 and it is fully capable of covering a 2x2 1/2 ' area.
Even coverage....GREAT LENSES

I must have started with COBs around the same time as you, I also started with an Optic 120 because it was the best small light available at the time. Then while waiting for a ridiculous amount of time for my pre-paid W90's to ship, I learned how to build my own. I've had very little personal interaction (i.e. email) with the owner of A51, I will say he refunded the money on my pre-paid order immediately upon request. I was grateful for that.

Show me a 50% efficient COB LED fixture pulling 200W from the wall for less than a Franklin and I'll buy the ever lovin' FUCK outta them! And I bet there'd be a line right behind me.
EDIT: okay, so you weren't talking COB LED just yet. But COB upgrade costs are dropping fast.

Area 51 LED is officially out of business and that c*** went out with style.... Took everyone's money for "preorders/backorders" with him. I am beyond pissed having just been scammed out of $300 bucks but I know I'm not the only one and surely not the one to have lost the most. I want to do something about this, not sure what tho... I realize this is my first post but I'm not making shit up or trying to advertise other companies just stating facts that Area 51 SUCKS and is a SCAM!!!!! I realize too that if u actually got a light from them, that they're good and efficient but a51 is SHIT in every other way. That ass wipe led me on saying just another week, just a few more days, BS, BS, BS. Just so he could take my money when he was ready to cash in his chips and run. If anyone knows his real name, toss it up. Legal action needs to be taken against that scumbag.

That's too bad. I recently purchases one of the last few remaining w90s in stock and it arrived to me no problem and quick too. I'm still using it alongside a Tasty bar in my veg tent. It really is a beautiful and quality light. Sounds to me like somewhere along the line the company bit off more than they could chew an exited the scene in a dubious manner..

over half my lights are a51 ... all of them still running 100% except one that is running at 87% (2 clusters out out of 16) that light is over 3 years old anyway. I dont know what happened because I thought they were going to get really big. Had they jumped into the DIY kits business and ... well whatever it doesnt matter, pretty hard to start a business. too bad, I guess I just lost warranty on half my lighting gear!.

The products were excellent for the time and then things went everywhere crazy. Attacks here on RIU and beyond, new models that never came and disappearances from forums, even his own. All my a 51s work and produce well but I know I am fortunate in my dealings with them.
