THE EDITOR IS GONE !!!!!! ).. So....I guess something has to be done there....ASAP.... -Now,custom & way bettter quality leds are being made.... ..... Drivers.... Those SL are crap....1 out of 10 gets fried with no apparent reason.......Suicidal drivers... ... Something not that expensive... Easy to find,from everybody to replace,in case of ...accident... Search-more search...... .. Oh !!!! Have you seen the new PCBS ? Custom made.... Thinner alum and epoxy layer ,thicker copper lines ...White "racy-flective" color .... ....Nice....Keep advancing... Now make these so that the fully loaded plate snaps in/out (drivers stay behind) and we have a fairly cost effective & upgradeable fixture

Consider NOT having them install leds- that could lead to back door selling

Gladly to do it ....--==============> But get to know the limitations there : -------------=> - 1 ) In order for the two surfaces (pcb alum side + heatsink ) to have as much close contact as possible(they have to ,for heat to dissipate effectively...) and no air trapped in between(which actsas a heat insulant ...) ,there is a ' film ' of thermocunductive silicon (metal containing ) 'grease' in between the two surfaces ... And it can be quite messy-sticky...And it doesn't come off easily at all.. - 2 ) For still the same reason of close contact ,rivets are used ...If in case of screws used ,heatsink should have had steel 'screw in' inserts ,so the screws to tight there and not on bare soft alum....That means more production costs....And maybe,also, that the ratio of "gains vs cost " is not so good.... Use a clip-on device ? How .Available space to work on (on the heatsink ) is not so much.... Up till now ,riveting the PCB to the heatsink is one of the best ways available.... Easy,clean,strong,no moving parts to unscrew (from heat ..."movements" of metal crystal structure.....metal expansion/contraction ),high pressure applied to the surfaces riveted ,ect...But it's hell of a b!tch to un-rivet(unmount)...Nothin' is perfect,you see... ............................................................................................................. But still ,what the design really lacks of is a better and safer driver and some "led protection" ... That what is troubling me the most ,right now.... Thin PMMA cover ? Do not like....No... PMMA lenses ? ......Same ...Do not like.... Reflector ? ..high cost.... Sh!t....Now,I'm stuck ...... I've to figure somethin' out.... Havin' them bare is the best.... Regarding power .... But a lot of ..'mishappens' will occur ,for sure.... Lens ? At 80-120 ° ? Noooooooooooaaaaaaahhhhhhh......

Anyway.... I should 've posted a disclaimer ,before starting the whole thread.... Suggesting that the whole thread is not meant for educational purposes or neither is written to solve out any "problem" , "gap" or "hole".... It's just my research notepad..... Yes... That's it..... My research ,on-line ,scrap book...... Some have really big problem with babblin... Others with "copyin' n' paste "..... Others they need it in simple words.... Others they need to know ,what is not known at all... ... Hey,you guys ... That's nothin' more ,than a led quest scratch book... I'm still learning ,as most of you do..... 4th day on 12.30 / 11.30 cycle.... Under 8 Astir " first gen " panels.. 190 Watts at plug.... So far ,so good....

brother,Pet...Nobody is installing anything .. Ourshelves we assemble the whole thing.... We just make orders ( now ,custom made for us ) and we own our own lab/ facility , where we meet and assemble the panels... So we just buy what we need... Drivers,leds,heatsinks,PCBs ,ect..... Everything else is made by us and only.... Every each one panel is hand-made ,and inspected carefully.... ... Ganja is,in fact, the solderin' masta'.....

The sooner you can post a youtube video on your site, the sooner you will be swamped with orders. I want to be the first on the list. Hmm wonder how much I could sell that position for? Hopefully enough to get me an 8 @ 24 w multi-panel :mrgreen:

Concerning your PCB attachment issues: Have you considered using a dielectric coating directly on the heat sink and mounting the leds directly? As for the riveting/screwing. The price difference is very little between the 2 options if you are hand assembling them. A good carbide tap cost around $15 and will tap over 1000 holes before needing replaced. As for the screws and/or rivet. Make sure that you only use aluminum fasteners. If you use stainless steel as you was suggesting you will get dissimilar metal corrosion and create a failure point. Grow rooms have the perfect conditions to create a corrosive environment. I personally do not feel the removal and replacements of rivets is a hard procedure, however I have been doing it for over 16 years in the aviation industry so take that with a grain of salt.

Oh my goodness ! 16 years ? ? ? !!! That ,I guess ,puts you in a position to claim that " I personally do not feel the removal and replacements of rivets is a hard procedure.." Well ,also for me it's rather ok .. ( I 'd been doing it also , since I was a young boy ,helping my father to fix our farm tractor or other heavy agricultural equip... ) But ,I guess,many people would hurt some fingers or severely scratch the heatsink/pcb in order to cut a rivet (or just drill it through... ) Yes the corrosion between two metals ,occurs .. Although ,I'm not sure though,if it can occur ,between the soft 1050 alloy of the heatsink (good corossion resistance and really effective cooling as very high purity,soft alum alloy ) and the usual A3 S. steel of /bolts/screws/inserts.... But ,better don't risk it,anyway... So ,sacrifising modularity ,for more robust and thermal efficient design.... ...And yes... As we speak,Ganja is researching a way ,to glue/mount a thin printed circuit ( 24K gold thin sheet !!!**),on a black anodised heatsink.... No pcb .... Leds directly to heatsink .....(heat route : led die =>led slug =>thin layer of thermal glue=>thin layer of insulation epoxy =>heatsink=>air )... I think he 's on something good there.... (**Not that gold would 've made any measurable difference ...It's just the only metal we can find easily ,in really thin sheets... )

Nice idea there ,Guod... Though ,probably that screw thread lock glue ,is also needed (the strong one ... I think is the red one ? )....

no fan, no vibration, no need for "loctide".... and if there is a need, go for the normal one... rework will be easier other question... if all leds (24) are phosphor coated blue leds we will have 24x3,2V= 76,8V....not easy to find a cheap driver with more then 76V. Maybe we should get in touch with dehner.... For sure we need a better driver,there... Any thoughts about protecting the leds lenses ? ( Except adding any additional ones ... ) I'm not afraid of vibration ,for the screws to become loose.... I'm worrying a bit with the thermal expansion/contraction of heatsink/screw... Being made from different metalic materials ,they'll have different thermal ' volume ' responses/changes... So,after some cycles of switching on & off ,maybe the screws will become loose... And if so,they'll not apply the appropriate pressure ..So the contact between the PCB and heatsink ,maybe become rather ....a soft touch.... I'm not sure about all these...It's a possibility,though....
