They hang in the water. Longer cuttings make reservoir top offs less frequent. They could be all the way to the bottom as long as there's no old vegetation left below the plug.

The open sites like removed old shoots will create more roots sites to form. Longer cuttings is better just for the ease of use, and they also have more meat on their bones.

Pardon all the questions, and thanks for the advice. I've been a humidity dome/root riot guy for a while, but really want to simplify the process. I'm guessing lots of air stones, 6.5ph and nute temps in the 70's?

No worries, that's why we're here, happy to help. The colder the better to combat fungal growth IMO. I use a shitty hailea 75, they work. I don't bother to pH, doesn't really matter.

They're not in mode to photosynthesis, the lesser light the better. They're fine with ambient light if you don't have a light to hang anywhere. Cheers!

Can you then plant those in coco/soil/peat or do you have to go hydro with that method?

Does it have to be plain water, or would they be OK in nutrient solution? I don't mind setting up a second chiller for plain water for the clones, but if I could get away with using my chilled DWC nutrient solution, I won't need a second chiller.

A few years ago a couple friends and I wanted to start a clone company. We tried probably every technique out there to get clones. Everything from domes to ez cloners. We used clone x, roots excel, etc. We bought thousands of dollars worth of Ez cloners and other equipment.

what we found is that

1. If you’re mother plants suck then your teens will suck. You can’t get gold from crap.

2. Keep it simple. You don’t need chillers, sprayers, or 400 dollar cloning machines to get clones

Yes plain water at room temp or warmer.Your thinking the wrong way,trying to grow roots not the plant.The plant itself also seems to stay healthier in dwc longer so its good if you dont have time to check on them..
