Best DIY Aero-cloner out there ~ Dcyans cloner

So you're thinking of making an aero-cloner and all the ones out there pretty much look the same, they all try to copy the store bought ones with either neoprene collars or little net pots. A grower years ago at OG called Dcyans came up with the idea to use PVC pipe as the collars like this

I use 2 cm across ones and cut them to about 4 cm length. Obviously you need a drill bit to cut the same size hole in your cover and you just push them in so that they are flush on the inside like these

The advantage is that they are easy to clean and nothing will soak into them. When you take a cut leave a side branch on to keep it from falling through and you're good to go.

Super cheap as well, you can prolly make 20 collars for a buck or two and use them for decades.

Another advantage is they use less space so you can fit more cuts. I have a little one I just made that only holds 10 liters of water but has 17 spaces for cuts.

I won't bore you with a step by step tut of me showing my pretty hands, I'm sure you guys can figure out how to use a saw and a drill.

Oh and another thing, notice how my spray manifold is just a straight line? You don't need to overwork it, keep is simple as they say.

Do the pvc pieces have cuts down the side? Or are you supposed to pull
the roots through the pvc? The rootmasses on the botoom look like they're
wider than the pvc and could be a pita to pull through.

You'd think that it would be a problem pulling them through but it never is. You'd have to veg for weeks before it really became a problem.

Looks awesome. It is so simple yet it is so clear how effortless things could be.

The only disadvantage i can spot would be the possibility of light leaks into the res through the pvc around the stems. Though a little paper and you would be 100% fine, and i am betting even without the paper it isnt an issue unless you have many unused and unblocked pvc openings(which you shouldnt)

+Rep :)

Hello Japanfreak. I read almost all of your threads and the information is great. I will be trying the hempy buckets for my next round. For your aero cloner, do you use andy nutrients? If so what are they? Also about how long does it take until roots start to show? Thanks in advance.

Depends on how I'm feeling that day. If I got my shit together I use the clone recipe on the back of my gh flora series and pH balance it all to like 5.5, these days I sometimes just use tap water or the clone recipe without pH adjusting because my pH pen is broke. I might add a few drops pH down because I know it will lower it a little though. So in other words I just wing it. Depending on temps I see roots within 5~10 days but usually transplant about 12 days from start.

I see, I will be using this cloner when my potential mothers are large enough. . I started NL in rockwool cubes. When the taproot grew out of the bottom i put them in solo cups and filled with washed perlite. I left the top surface of the cube exposed so i can check moisture. They seem to be growing fine. Have you done this before with seedlings or just clones? Also do you think it will be difficult to transplant when they are larger? I to have the GH flora series, although i have not fertilized them yet. Any information will be helpful. Thanks in advance.

This thread is about cloning not about seeds so I'm not sure what you are asking but you can start seeds in rockwool if you want to. I prefer just to start them in cups of perlite without rockwool though.

Japanfreak,

Just read through your thread man and I gotta awesome. I started one just like this in the AG section: check it out. https://www.rollitup.org/aerogardeners/408579-diy-ez-cloner.html . Not trying to hijack your thread bud.

Quick question on your setup, does the misters shoot water out those holes on top where you have the clones resting? With my setup, the neoprene, blocks and water shooting through. How do you prevent that in your setup? Look forward to hearing from you man.

in theory, couldn't you just put 1/4" holes in the lid of the container to achieve the same effect?
