So you're thinking of making an aero-cloner and all the ones out there pretty much look the same, they all try to copy the store bought ones with either neoprene collars or little net pots. A grower years ago at OG called Dcyans came up with the idea to use PVC pipe as the collars like this
I use 2 cm across ones and cut them to about 4 cm length. Obviously you need a drill bit to cut the same size hole in your cover and you just push them in so that they are flush on the inside like these
The advantage is that they are easy to clean and nothing will soak into them. When you take a cut leave a side branch on to keep it from falling through and you're good to go.
Super cheap as well, you can prolly make 20 collars for a buck or two and use them for decades.
Another advantage is they use less space so you can fit more cuts. I have a little one I just made that only holds 10 liters of water but has 17 spaces for cuts.
I won't bore you with a step by step tut of me showing my pretty hands, I'm sure you guys can figure out how to use a saw and a drill.
