Best HPS BULBS on the market?

Cheap
I think its better to buy cheap bulbs and replace them often. If you can afford to replace expensive bulbs often then thats even better.
Copy bulbs to me are a fire hazard also I wouldn't want my bulbs blowing in the middle of a grow in flower always have a back up. Happy growing all.

This is my 1st grow and went with IPower equipment. Replacement 400watt bulbs are $10 shipped which will allow me to replace bulbs every grow. I would be more hesitant to throw away $65 bulbs used once.

I get mine off eBay for £28 with no problems if you pay any less I wouldn't trust it.

I don't,, I use for 2 rips then I buy a new 1.. I'm used to paying around here 90$ 130.00 for a new bulb

With eye hortilux,, you can use bulb for a entire year before it loose spectrum. Well it's supposed to work that way

You can go a year with a bulb, but it's my experience that after six months I could tell my bulbs were getting tired as my yields slowly decreased until a new bulb was put in.

So I go with either Horti's when I can get them at a sane price, or Ushio's when I can't....and swap out every six months.

Thats crazy! I thought we are supposed to change hps bulbs every 16 days. Ive been doing it that way for years. Recently i had to pick up an evening job just for bulb replacement money. Worth it though!!!!

Some bulb salesman must love you. If you're not pulling our leg, I hope you saved all those "used" bulbs because you probably have a life-time of bulbs at hand.

Stop being stingy MF, I change mine every second Sunday. They say god took Sunday off when making the universe but that's some bullshit, he just needed time to change the big bulb in the sky. If its good enough for god its good enough for me!

What do you run & what do get per g/w

I used to run Philips or hortilux bulbs for flowering when I used HPS but I use LED these days. gpw around 1.5-1.6, best was 1.67 but I just try to get to 8oz for every 2x2 of flowering space, sometimes I don't make it and sometimes I do.

On a serious note when i ran HPS I changed bulbs every 2 rounds of flowering plants.

The less snake oil the better....The best HPS bulb is the least expensive one at Home Depot / Lowes / Wherever, that will fit your fixture. One run and done...inexpensive, readily available and despite what many may think; they work just fine.

Just my two cents...

So what bulbs do you buy and how often do you replace them? I've had problems with my bulbs breaking after a few months.

Hortilux bulbs. Generally, I do a walk around of the local grow shops in my area and see what's sitting dusty, and bulbs are dusty often. I almost always get them at a reduced rate (about the same or less than on Amazon, without the risk of shipping disasters). I replace my bulbs every three quarters or so (or about twice every year and a half). If I was bringing in money from my product, I'd be replacing them twice per year.

Update: I should note that I use Single Ended (SE) fixtures in my tents.

If i could get the double ended philips, i would. I ordered 4 of them and they came broken every time. Ended up going with the Ushio double end. Very nice bulb and happy with it. Double enders dont need to be replaced nearly as often- that was a major reason i switched to them.

If we are talking strictly single ended, the Hortilux is a proven performer and the price is very affordable these days. A new 60$ bulb every grow or two is no big deal when you consider you are going to be sending hundreds of dollars worth of electricity through it.

I like the Philips DE HPS. I usually run them for two flowering cycles or 6 months.
I saw this post and didn’t see the age, I was looking for this, I just switched to 1k de and was going to run the master power or whatever they call it now. I’m still looking...
