Best PC Game

yea I'm into strategy. I love FPS and 3rd person shooters the most....but if its not online its usually not fun.

used to play the age of empires stuff back in the day...bout as far as I've gone into strategy games.

I'll take any suggestions, for any category, as long as it isnt an online only game.
It would help to say how fast your PC is when you asked this question, but I`m not a beliver that high graphics=good game so I`ll give you some!

For FPS:

Quake3 arena, thats the real speedy quick action FPS game :) Try its mods too, e.g Defrag is really good, just google it. Defrag is all about skill in stunts, gives the game another level, rocket jumps, plasma wall climbing, you name it! If you ever play the mod, try cpm-defrag/runackman.

Unreal Tournament 2004: Try playing it online/offline in Onslaught mode, two teams of 16 capturing power nodes. There are vehicles etc... I had to uninstall it due to my exams coming up :D

For the best offline RPG`s (these aren`t wow shit, they are legends)

Fallout & Fallout 2 (they are better than Fallout3 unless your a commercial-after the graphics gamer) These are turn-based 2D RPG`s and are the best 2 games I played in my life :)

The game I spent the most ever time playing was a map extension called DOTA (defense of the ancients all stars) for Warcraft 3 The frozen Throne. Its so damn good, it converted Warcraft3 into a single unit controlling role playing game, which you don`t have a constant character but build one up to level25 every game (which lasts an hour or 20-30min if your awesome). This single map took off so well its created into 2 stand alone games now called Heroes of New Earth and League of Legends.

And IMO the best MMORPG ever created was Ultima Online 2D... Fuck WoW!! In UO, you level up just like another MMORPG but lose all items (except a few spellbooks&runebooks) upon death. In WoW, your prone to be beaten to the ground by a level 85 time waster with epic weapons or whatnot, lol In UO, you can set a trap up and kill him to get his weapons. Big difference. Plus in UO your character is max level (in most unofficial servers) in 1 week - 4 weeks - 3 months (rare).

I advise you the Fallout`s most! Enjoy! :)

I have been playing Starcraft 2 and the original Witcher.

Starcraft 2 is honestly one of the best games ever made. (If not the best to date)

I second the recommendation for the first two Fallout games. You will be amazed at how much the story can change based on your abilities and play styles (set you intelligence really low and have fun tromping through the wasteland barley able to talk [seriously it's fun try it]). The story is great and the world feels more alive and defined then Oblivion or Fallout 3 ever did even with their fancy 3d and extremely flawed AI.

I'd also recommend the first xcom or the similar (and free) ufo:ai.
You tasked with defending earth from alien invaders. You have to build bases, hire and equip tactical teams, defend citizens and even your own base against alien attack, research alien technology and organisms that you capture in battle. Combat it turn based and highly reliant on your ability to use good tactics. Charging off blindly into darkness of night is a great way to get squad members killed. Hell just getting off the vehicle you came in can be challenging at night. The learning curve is a bit steep but it's one of the great classics in my opinion.

Dwarf Fortress is also a fun (and free) option if you don't mind geeking out totally. Fair warning the interface takes some serious getting used to. It's confusing and a bit frustrating at first but once you wrap your head around it's logic it feels quite natural. There are two games that make up Dwarf Fortress but they use the same randomly generated world. The less touted adventure mode is like most rougelikes just more advanced. The second part is a fortress management game that tasks you with running a fortress full of dwarfs. You start out with 7 dwarfs and some basic supplies. The game is quite complex and you dwarfs can focus on anything from beekeeping, to metalworking, to kicking some serious ass (watch a one footed, one armed, dwarf grab hold of an elephants leg with it's teeth and you'll know what I mean). Building a sustainable fortress that doesn't get wiped off the map with the first goblin siege takes practice but as their motto says loosing is fun.

Hey while I'm throwing out game suggestions for geeks might as well put ascii sector in there. The game is a free space exploration and combat game. Trade, take on mission, buy better ships/equipment, etc. The graphics are surprisingly nice for ascii graphics and the combat is surprisingly fun. Not my favorite game but there are far worse ways to kill time and the price is right.
