BHO blasting and winterising. Help may be needed lol.

Why not just grind them up the first run? do you plan on freezing the second solvent and running it through a filter to dewax?.. If so i would run it all ground up because anything that is not THC will be solidified in the freezer then caught by a filter during the second filter process.

Yes I plan on freezing the solution of BHO and ISO.

Yes I plan to filter said solution before evap.

I'll grind it all prior to blasting and freeze in the tube.

Also about stirring the solution.

I shouldn't do this because the fats and waxes should have been pretty much deposited on the bottom of the jug already and stirring them will cause them to go back into the solution.

Is that correct?

This is correct. You want the liquid as undisturbed as possible after the 12 hours of being frozen.

Ill be honest.. when I winterized at the end of some of the runs i wished i had put the initial mixture of butane and second solvent into a warm water bath for a little while at 90-105. Just to make sure that all of the butane has left the solution. Gotta keep in mind that hot water will create a little condensation though.

Not 2Litres like I've got in the cupboard just Incase lol.

Thanks Twitch for clearing that up.

Should I freeze my NUGS in the tube prior to blasting?

Should I grind up the nugs or chop initially and second run the same nugs once ground up?

J

make sure your nugs are bone dry... I grind all nugs I run into a fine powder, pack the tube and freeze it over night. After you blast the tube which will only take 1 can you can discard the material a second run will only yield more plant waxes fats lipids stuff you will be filtering out with the winterizinng.

I've always just frozen the material and packed it instead of freezing in the tube.. Its crossed my mind a few times but i was always worried about condensation forming on the inside. Has this ever been a problem for you ?

Just to confirm.

Woody has water in a pan that's at 175F the pyrex doesn't sit in the water just on top of the pan.

Should I still aim for 100F you think?

yes shoot lower and this process will take longer, I would get a hot water bath that you can periodically change the water in and keep it around 100

Why would it form my freezer is dry, I would be more concerned with it forming the way you are doing it. When you pull some thing cold out of the freezer it condensates on the outside, the bud is on the inside never exposed to the outside air when it is at its subzero temp. When you take your bud out of the freezer to be pack, it is exposed to the air until you pack it, also the act of packing a tube will warm up the material above freezing.

I always freeze my tubes after I pack them

makes sense when you break it down like that. I always run material in a cold environment for that specific reason though. As long as the material is bone dry i don't run into any moisture issues though. The freezer seems to create a certain consistency when i make shatter. I like sappy shatter that i can touch with gloves no problem. Makes my life a whole lot easier.

NUGS have been dried and are pretty much fully cured too.

I harvested about a month or so ago and they go into jars with BOVEDA62's so there's no issue there.

Thanks for all the tips guys.

I'll post pics and results etc once completed.

Just gotta wait for this damn snow/rain to stop so I can blast.

One final clarification guys if you don't mind.

The half cup of ISO i use to add to the boiled down BHO solution, should these be taken from the freezer to use or should it be room temp?

I guess what I'm kind of asking is should I be making the BHO solution cold when adding cold ISO.

Is the reaction of butane purging temp dependant on the resulting ISO BHO solution?

J

And so it begins.

26.6g of buds ground.

Coffee filters over the open end and zip tied tight.

Placed into the freezer.

next update will be blasting day.

JMHO, but isnt that a very loosely packed tube?

Maybe it is.

But please remember this will be my first rodeo for BHO.

If I really packed the column it would take a little too much bud.

And from what I've read too tightly packed can cause issues too.

It was pretty well pushed in using a wooden spoon and then my thumbs.

J

i would grind it up finer on the second go around and use coffee filters to takes up the extra space in the tube.

Is it worth grinding up a little more bud and adding into the top of the tube?

I have it spare, I just dedicated 4 small clones to the tube for this run of the bho and whatever it generated I was going to use.

Also are you saying to rerun the bud from the tube for a second time or the second time I make bho grind it finer?
