Black/brown leaf tips, help

I’m growing a plant in a space bucket I made with 4 25W cfl bulbs, and some of the leaves tips are turning black/brown mostly lower leaves. I think it may be nutrient deficiency but I’m not sure as this is my first grow just looking for some help to stop the problem.

I highly recommend that you post pictures to help identify the problem accurately. If it is the bottom growth of leaves only, this is natural, due to the leaves not receiving enough light. With CFL's the penetration is not fantastic , so it should be expected that the bottom growth is not reviving enough light, especially if you have a bushy canopy.

I posted pictures and their are some of the upper nodes that have it too not as bad as the lower leaves though

I am not a soil grower, but it looks like either the start of nutrient burn (SUUUUUPER mild at this point, almost to where I like to feed so not much if even a concern); OR the plant is just self-cannibalizing its lower leaves which is fine and as @JAMO_Grow said is due to the light penetration. Are you doing a super soil grow or are you feeding as well? If you're feeding, what nutrients are you using?

I never actually used any nutrients lol. I bought the flora series but never used it. My soil is just some I mixed with coco coir, perlite, and seed starting potting mix. So you think their is nothing to worry about as of the moment?

I think youre in the clear, so no worries. But as I said, im not a soil grower (I do organic hydro); but I think you might need to add some nutes EVENTUALLY, but not now. If you dont mind me askin, what was the soil you used, like FFOF? With the mixture you listed above, which is good but eventually might need you to add some nutes due to the soil eventually being depleted of nutrients. Check this site out, specifically the soil section for some general guidance. https://www.growweedeasy.com/soil It also has deficiency charts and an abundance of information on all aspects of growing weed. Happy growing!

The brand was MG... I know I shouldn’t have used it but it was all I had available at the time sadly. But it has been working fine. And one more question do you think the lights being about a foot away is too far with cfl bulbs? Thanks for the response!

No worries, MG isn't going to destroy your crop; its just not the best due to a few reasons. As for the CFL's, id keep them at MAX of 12" away from the top of the canopy. When I used to use them, I would put my hand about 6-8" from them and see how long I could hold my hand there. If it wasn't too hot, then thats how far I would keep it from the canopy. One thing though is if they get too close to the CFL, they will burn, so watch your plants. CFL's work decent, but they don't offer much light penetration, so next go around if you can, upgrade your light to some LED's or a ballasted light.

Thanks man, appreciate all the help!

I’m having the same problem but I see one guy say it’s nute burn and another saying they’re hungry feed em. Which one is it?

I just kinda left mine alone and didn’t change anything. it was just some of the lower leaves getting old and not enough light so they were dying off which is normal. It never spreaded to other leaves and the problem is gone now 7 weeks into flower

I think I just got a little too loving with the nutes, all my new growth is healthy and I just started 12/12 two days ago. I got gg #4 and am waiting for this epic stretch I’ve been hearing about
