Yes! Heat mats definitely need a controller with sensor to work properly, ime. Good notes.. I usually set the sensor at the bottom of the center pot, the hottest spot.Biggest lessons learned so far : 1) heating mats are too hot. Too hot to hatch seeds by putting them right over the top. You will nuke the seeds if you do this. Need to either get another thermostat for the heater or put books on top to defray the heat. Shit is definitely over 100 degrees. I bet the ideal temp is around 80 to 85 degrees. Heating mats seem okay for rooting clones but if you put water on the bottom of the tray over the heat mat. Still need to make sure heating mat won't nuke the clones.
2) Hydrogen peroxide works in hatching seeds. To use for the shot glass soak as well as the paper towel thing.
But must be room temp and Ph'ed. 3% solution around 1 part to 10 parts water up to 1 part to 5 parts water. Also putting the seeds in dark container works better than putting the seeds inside a plastic bag while you're doing the paper towel thing.
3) Rapid rooters are good for rooting clones. Not so much for hatching seeds.
