I know what you mean but you have to admit that they are unbelievably convenient.Simple solution. Learn how to work without boveda packs.
Never needed them, never will.
Find someone else who has a hygrometer and see if it reads high on theirs as well. That should give you a definitive answer.RU kidding me?, do you think someone would try and duplicate packs that cost about a dollar from Boveda?.
And then use Amazon to distribute?.
Don't think so.
The Godamn packs are mislabeled...what it so hard for some of you people out here to accept?.
Not a big deal, manufacturers are all known to make a mistake or 2.
Jesus, read the thread.
Manufacturers are never perfect, yet Boveda did not seem interested in testing these packs...so back they go to Amazon. They are extremely convenient, don't have to check your jars constantly. I've been using them over 2 months now and I'm very impressed. I've noticed that after 6 to 8 weeks of curing the smell has gotten more pungent and the taste has gotten a bit smoother. Not really any noticeable change in potentcy. What I like the most about these packs is that they keep your buds just moist enough so they don't break apart and the trics don't fall off inside the jars. Every couple weeks I pull out all my jars and give them a little shake to keep them from sticking together, usually it's not needed but at the same time I visually inspect them for mold to be safe. I don't see trics stuck to the sides of the jars like I do with jars without packs in them. For me BP's are a no brainer. I hope the poster can get his problem worked out, this is the first and only time I've heard any complaints like this. Not saying it couldn't happen but this is a first.
The salt test gets you to 75% RH.Fill a shot glass with salt and wet it with enough distilled water to wet it but not have any pooled on the top and put it in a sealed jar with hygrometer. That's a 70% rh standard that's easy to kake to test your hygrometer.
I used to represent dozens of manufacturers as a distributor, none are perfect.for every 100 people there at least one or two of them that will not like the way things are so on that note this is the one or two people who have had issue's with there product and blame a million dollar company because he had a bad outcome .. boveda is in the business to make money and the one or two people who give them a bad rep are just pissed at the world..IT IS POSSIBLE for a package to be mislabeled and end up in the consumers hand so you deal with that in itself NOT dog a company for your one time issue.. BOVEDA'S ARE DUMMY PROOF IF YOU ORDER THE RIGHT ONE'S
Yes...................Have you tried different meters? Just a thought.
I think this section of the MB has some reading comprehension issues.I've been testing my packs ability to add and regulate moisture in empty jars. Ive tried combos of 1qt and 1l jars with 62s and 69s. I also have the 75% calibration kit. I calibrated all 10 of my mini hygrometers with the kit and then left them in the top of the closet for 24hrs to make sure they all read the same, etc.
I've found the packs to reach the desired level after 8-12 hours in the jars and stay there, longest test i did was 48hrs. That said, I have yet to put fresh flowers in them. However, based on everything I've read about the packs, and in this thread, I'm guessing user error.
For one, maybe the flower isn't dry enough in the first place, or you've got too much in a jar and not enough boveda, or your fucking with it too much and not letting it stabilize, or your conditions outside the jar are varying a lot or extreme.
I'm chopping tomorrow so I'll weigh in more in a few weeks but you do seem like the minority here.
That's a fantastic response from Boveda, clearly a company that cares. Glad you got a result. Now I feel guilty for thread title, below is not only a valid response via my copied email...but also some very good info for those using this product. Unfortunately, I'm done curing until late February...so will try again then.
"The only way a Boveda can be off is if we mixed it wrong and QC's test let it pass. Unlikely, but possible. Or, the Boveda have gained too much water by trying to regulate 62% that it throws off the salt/water ratio. At that point, it needs to lose enough water to bring it within the range it was engineered. It'll be tough to tell when that is by feel, since the Boveda will just be softer, but in terms of weight, it's about 20% of the starting weight. So for an 8g, it can gain about 2grams before it needs to be exposed to an RH lower than 62 in order to make it 62 again. For a 60g Boveda, it can gain about 12grams before needing to be dried out. Nothing has a unlimited capacity to absorb moisture, including Boveda.
That isn't uncommon for our cigar and music customers. When the primary work of the Boveda is moisture removal, they let them work for a while and then when their (calibrated) hygrometer shows the RH is going up, they put in a set that they've let dry out a ways. I even know a couple guys that live in opposite climates that mail each other dry and hydrated Boveda.
If you'd like to return the 62's you have so we can test them, we'd be happy to do that. We'll just weigh them and test the RH. If they're 62% at 8-10 weight, then we just need to adjust how you're using them. Like Louie said, for storage - perfect. For moisture removal in the curing process, maybe not so much.
I hate to put you through any hassle, but if you'd like to send them back, we'll be able to determine if we sold you bad product. If we didn't, Louie's simple suggestions will be good for turning out and storing your cannabis simply and perfectly. I'd also like to send you a free calibration kit. After 24 hours in the calibration bag, you'll know for sure your hygro is telling the truth. Please fire me your address and I'll get it on the way.
How's that sound?"
I have a small humidor that hold 10-15 cigars, and I also have the 62% packs. Can I use those directly in the humidor?Yeah those are a waste of money. A small thing of distilled water is really cheap and everyone has salt.
I've got to say I'm surprised. I've been using their products for many years for cigars and pot and have never had a bad experience.
