Breeders, Moneygrabs, and Hermies

So is it just a fact these days that we're just going to have to deal with high percentages of hermied plants? With breeders literally cranking out multiple strains in months with almost no stablizing is this the new normal? What about those of us who don't have the time or room to go pheno hunting full seed packs? With the prices of seeds these days I would certainly think there should be more stablizing. Two grows in a row now from two big breeders.......GOT SEEDS? Rant over. Just venting.

Yeah price doesnt always correlate with quality in cannabis seeds in my experience anyway

Yes and no.

I'm not "good" at growing weed, but I buy from reputable people and I've invested in a quality set up. Never bought a seed without being aware of its hermmie potential, and I've never had a true hermmie.

I got some DJ short gear in the mother tent that has a non negligible chance of hermieing, aswell as some AKBB gear that has reportedly hermmied for a few people, but those were chances I was willing to take.

I agree to a point. I won't mention any names but I've been seeing with a couple of breeders that this is more than just a fluke. Almost normal now.

I think you should message them with your problem and if they're cunts about it, tell everyone.

I had some trouble with akbb seeds from JBC germinating, I shot him an email, explained my methods and the results I was getting. He gave me some good advice and offered replacement beans, even though I got them through a bank.

This community only exists today because of the trust that existed during the hard times of prohibition. If we don't hold people accountable, that trust dissolves, and we will be worse off than we were 30 years ago.

Wanted to support early legal USA states and sales. Greybeard. Colorado. His “private reserve” strains. I order 10 pre-98 Bubba. Had them outside and a grower neighbor is over and points out there’s 2 hermies. Crap! Threw them into the woods. Over the next week or so every single one turned hermie.

I contact them. “What do you want us to do about it?” Well first to let you know eh? You might want to stop selling them. Next I think a replacement is in order. 10 out 10? C’mon.

Well it’s not their fault. They buy seeds in bulk from Seedsman and just repackage them. That’s according to the 2 principals there.

I look at modern mj strains like thoroughbred race horses. For many generations they've both been breed for just 1 or 2 qualities...speed/endurance for horses and potency/yeild for Mj.

Many of the traits that naturally pass along in nature, don't. Natural selection had been stopped/manipulated.

Maybe after half a century of breeding for large potent harvest, modern plants aren't as "strong" as landrace strains. Much in the same way a thoroughbred horse isn't as "durable" as a wild mustang.

Oh, take it farther than one or two. Bud structure, low smell, and fast flowering times.

I am not going to pretend this is the answer or solution for all but maybe something to try..

I know when I had an issue like this with a second gen pack, JD said I bet you won't have that issue if you took a clone of that plant and flower it out. He went on to explain it was fairly common for the 'from seed' plants to herm or show nanners but that the clones of the same plant tend to not have that issue. Sure enough, only the from seed plant hermed on me, the clone and next clone I cut from her both flowered out with no nanners. Maybe this just applies to his and his fathers gear but yea

I have read other breeders state never flower your from seed plants, always take cuts and flower them but never heard why and I wonder if this is related and part of the old bro-science that holds some facts to it?..

I grow exclusively from seed and don't get hermies.

I think you're using the term breeder much too loosely. Who are these other breeders and what actual background do they have in plant science?

The "Never flower from seed plants" is 100% bro-science nonsense.

Its a combination of things 1 people are lazy 2 theres few real actual breeders out there 3 most only care about the money i aint saying u shouldnt get paid but when the moneys more important than the passion to you then i wouldnt be buying from you and finally 4 most of todays genetics stem from bagseed hence hermey genes are abundant think cookies think chem think og think gg4 you get the idea theres probably more points but this just a few off the top of my head thats not even accounting for hype and marketings influence lol

Same for me its rare and i have always grew from seed every grow and i probably always will
