I'd pitch them before they have a chance to infect other buds. Throw them in a fire and let them die.

so will they continue to rot?

There is still alot of god smoke it is just the center.

After they are cut down can it still spread?
Troy,

I think if it was me and I noticed bud rot in some of my colas I'd have to cut them (just the effected buds) and get them out of there before it spreads.

I wouldn't throw them a way though. I'd dry them, grind them up and then sautee them in butter or vegatable oil and then use that oil or butter to make a batch of brownie's or cookies.

You didn't say what your temps or RH were but I'm guessing your RH is kind of on the high side for this late in flowering. Better do what you can to get it down.

Although I can't recall exactly I seem to remember reading something about temps under 60F contributing to this. Better do a search on "bud rot" and find out for sure what the contributing factors are.

Good luck.

Mold on cheese, for example, can go .5-1" past what you can see. I wouldn't make anything with them that didn't involve very strong alcohol to kill the mold, like green dragon or iso hash.

Troy,

You can get a cheap (fairly accurate)combination thermometer, relative humidity gauge at WallMart for a couple of bucks.

Since you've already chopped them and they're in the process of drying I would tend to think that would keep it from spreading. But just to be on the safe side you could segregate the buds with mold from those that aren't already effected by it.

MrBlanco,

A couple of months back I had about a 1/4 oz of already dried and cured weed in a jar that I thought was a little too dry. I put a piece of wet paper towel in with it to try and get some moisture back into it. Trouble was I'd forgot about it and by the time I checked it again about a week later it had gotten way to moldy to even think about smoking.

Not wanting to waste it I sauteed it in 2/3 of a cup of vegetable oil for 20 minutes and used the oil to make a batch of brownies. I didn't notice any adverse effect to the taste of the brownies and they didn't cause me any illness.

I'm pretty sure cooking it in 300 degree oil gets rid of any problems that any mold on it could cause a person.

But then on the other hand I might be an exception to the rule. Being as my "heart is pure" I usually have the strength and stamina of any 10 normal men. And normally my immune system can handle anything up to the size of a small rabbit and keep me from suffering any ill effects.
