Can I flower while fighting a Gnat Problem?

I've been fighting a gnat problem now for about 3 weeks. My plants have remained strong. I have tried "everything" :wall:to rid of these little mother**uckers :cuss: and nothing is seeming to work. I had been planning to start flowering last week and would still like to. I currently have the gnat situation "under control" meaning there is a very minimal amount of them. The plants are def ready to be flowered but I am thinking that the gnats might stress them into males or shemales if I start flowering now. Thoughts?

Do you have any idea where they are coming from? If you can eliminate the source problem solved. If they aren't hurting the plants I guess I wouldn't let me stop flowering them though.

I've tried everything, layer of sand on the plants completely cleaned the grow area and washed with a insect soap, sprayed all plants with insect soap, let dry out to the point where they were wilting up, added a light from the local pest control company to try, vinegar in a cup with soap........I can't find for the life of me where they are coming from......

I really want to flower but don't want to end up with a bunch of he/she's

hmm they have to be getting in somewhere , find the source before you flower as they will just cause more problems for you

i wouldnt feel comfortable flowering with a knat problem.,.,because they harm ro0ts.,.,and i think it would fuck ure yeild signifigantly.,.,.,try'ntry.,.,.,if nothing works then flower but tryn get'em in check i kno no other remedies besides the ones u named srry.,.,but some of the indo0r vets a chime in im sure

those things are hard to get rid of - they tend to be everywhere, not just around your plants. they are probably all over your pad. i found some in my bedroom, bathroom blah blah blah, little cuckers. but, if you can keep them to a minimum you can grow with them - and flower your plants no problem. have you tried need oil - that plus the sand plus the yellow sticky fly paper will keep the population way down. but, once you have them, you might always have them.

These things have been driving me crazy!!!! Idk what to do about them, I've even thought of ditching the plants and starting over. They have vegged for almost 2 months now and I would like to flower and try to reap at least some kind of reward.......I can't for the life of me figure out where they are coming from. There are no other plants in the house, not in the basement, not near a window that would be attracting the bugs, gnats are attracted to water and I have dried those little bit*hes sooooo much that I was pretty sure they weren't going to come back.......Here's a couple pics one of the gnats in Vinager

I have not tried the oil, I have put the yellow sticky fly paper up and have bug light with a lg neon yellow strip and 2 flo bug lights in it..........I hate the damn things. The building I live in is very old and who knows what else lives here :)

I've had them bad in the past, and went ahead with my schedule and it worked out alright. I know they're bad for the plants, but they don't seem to be on the same level damage-wise as something like mites. Also, I've had success keeping them down by:
- sticky tape traps
- letting soil dry well between waterings
- sprinkling Mosquito Bits on the top of the soil before watering (same idea as mosquito dunks - releases a bacteria into the soil that will kill the larvae [no harm to plants])

Thanks good to hear.....I will have to give the bits a try and see if I have any luck with that......These guys just wont move out!!! Well then I think it's final I will flower!! :peace:

Don't quote me on this, but I do recall hearing some time back about diluted tobacco sauce working for this sort of problem. I may however be mistaken.

I stuck 10 cigs in a gallon of water let it sit for 7 hours then sprayed the pants and watered with it.....I think these guys just want to piss me off!!!

I would seriously recommend not doing that again and hope that they survive. Your plants should never have any contact with tobacco, I remember reading about this tom tobacco mosaic virus in high times, but here is a link for another thread I found for you right here on RIU.

I hope they are ok :S

Wow its pretty scary stuff.

TMV destroyed my entire set up. If your plants contract it, the new growth will start to look bumpy and deformed. The buds will grow loose with little to no pistols and it will stunt the growth of the plant. This virus has no cure or treatment and is very resilient. It has been known to last over 50 years in dead plant material. If you are using a system in which water is circulated (i.e. hydroponics or airoponics) this virus will spread astoundingly fast, and there is nothing you can do to stop it. However, I would still try to quarantine or destroy the infected plant and see what happens. If you are using soil or another medium where water from one plant does not come in contact with another plant I would immediately quarantine the suspect plant and hope for the best. Also, TMV is spread primarily by pests that feed on the plants juices, so remember to take measures to prevent infestations. Never wait until you see pests to treat for them. By the time you notice pests they have usually reached infestation level.

Look at your plants closely and be proactive.
Good Luck to All

try closing any windows and using ac in that room if you arent already. Window screens let in small bugs, especially when there's a 2nd sun in your room at night.

I've had those bastards from the get-go. You're in the clear about flowering. I've grown all types of strains with those fungus gnats flying about the whole time. I've heard they eat the roots but my plants are plenty healthy. The damage from them really is quite minimal. They're really more of a nuisance than anything. I've tried everything - sand, pest strips, potato slices, predatory venus flytrap-like plants.... everything. Their numbers will fluctuate but they never seem to die out completely. I think their eggs are already in the soil when I buy it or something. Don't stress it. I've grown plenty of great crops with them all over the place.

Oh yea I forgot. Of all the methods I've tried to control their population the best is to decrease your watering frequency. Those gnats love wet soil so if you let things dry out as much as possible between waterings it will keep their numbers down.

i've had these problems since jump too with miracle gro soil...then i finally got rid of em with drying out and natural pesticides and i get some nutrients and back to square 1...there a bitch i'm buying some marine sand in like 20 minutes and trying that out...also gonna look for mosquito bits/dunks if i see em

I did that about 2 weeks ago and the plants didn't show any signs of stress or bother.....Seemed to be fine....Guess I got lucky.. Thanks for the heads up!

Good to know that they will survive (not the fly's)

Also someone mentioned that they had this problem with the MG soil..............THATS EXACTLY WHAT I'M USING!! Idk probably just a coincidence....I know a lot of people knock the MG soil but I personaly like it.....
