there is a conclusive study proving a link between high occurances of cancer and exposure to HID lighting... i wish i had a link for you but the source is credible imo... NPR
tan at your own risk.
When I was running 5 1k hps lights I would go in under a green light and do all my cleaning and such just to keep my exposure to a bare minimum.

[FONT=&quot]A good friend of mine went under the knife recently to have a malignant growth (skin cancer) removed from his nose. He is very much a home body, rarely leaving his house and has been working with HPS lights for many years - he attributes the cancer to the lights.

Obviously there is no evidence directly linking this in his case however he now only works on his grow fully covered and with sunnies. He is doing ok now but now needs to go for full body scans and blood tests every 6 months to ensure the cancer hasn't returned or travelled.

- Prevention is better than cure!

you could probably find a study that finds that taking a shit every day increases your risk of getting cancer. it's just a matter of how much of an increase it really causes.....

on a side note, if you're working with anything above 10,000 lumens per square foot, i suggest using both EYE and SKIN protection.

10,000 is how bright it gets outside during the summer, give or take a few.... so anything brighter is just not conditions you'd find in nature on earth, and proper precautions should be taken.....

Ok so anyone saying you can't..just shutup because you don't know what your taking about. Can you tan under an hps? YES. that is how my girlfriend tans period..not under my light but a tanning salon that costs about 5x the price of a normal one because they use HPS bulbs giving you the same tan given by flourecents but 3x stronger and without the SUN BURN so tanning under the HPS *IS* the way to go. However..I am not sure if they use a specific type..my girl friend says it's a shit load of a bunch of little bulbs spread out... I'm imaging a bunch of 25 to 50 watts pointing down..anyways haircutcut time..peace.
