Yeah I've quickly learned that although they are great they certainly come with a whole new set of issues and problems that one doesn't have to deal with in the city. Like you said, still well worth it though.

No, im in Alberta. The acreage I bought has a bored well. It produces about 75 gallons/day so if I dump a load of water in every few days it keeps us from running out. Been working long days and sometimes I forget to bring it home so we run out. Even though it really sucks thawing out frozen valves in the winter, it's still a lot cheaper than hiring a water truck to bring a big load once a month like the previous owner did.
My sister just moved to Kelowna, and I'm jealous, but unfortunately the job I have doesn't exist out there.

How long have you had the acreage? The one I got(in sask) has town water but when I checked it the other day it's running at 1200ppm

What a pain in the ass! The island I live on is wholly dependent on wells and a large part of my job is 'water system operator'. I caretake a camp with 600 kids (300 at a time) and our wells produce about 2800 gallons on a good day, but some days consumption is double that. We have 50,000 gallons of storage but it was still a challenge to not run out. A lot of islanders have been dry for over a month

NTU's (turbidity)? Wow! I got put on a boil water when mine spiked to 4.3. A city water system should produce water at about .02 NTU

3.5years. I'm used to it it's part of my routine, if I bring 1600L home every 4-5 days we don't run out. If work is really busy 14-18hrs/day I sometimes push it and run out while I'm having a shower. Screw the cops it cost less to not arrest people. Money grabbing pigs. Cities and provinces should be cutting the funding to LE and Corrections Canada not increasing it. But pigs will be pigs always at the money trough. Government needs to give their head a good hard shake.

A reverse-osmosis system is under $10k and will solve the problem. Not sure how your system is funded....

Right now I'm just using a "Hydrologic" reverse-osmosis system. Only $300 and works great. Only using it for drinking and plant water though. Will be a while before I can afford a system like the one you mentioned.

I am on a well and use a hydrologic as well. But I found I still have leaf necrosis issues no matter medium (soil, hydro etc.). I always add calmag back into the water. I learned that forms of certain substances like manganese are soluble in water and pass through RO, so I think I might have a toxicity problem with a micronutrient. So now I am trying a new thing, Ozonating the RO water product and then after it dissipates passing the water through a active carbon post filter. It is a huge pain in the butt, but if it fixes my problem I would be happy. Ozone causes soluble forms of metals to precipitate and they can then be caught by carbon filtration. Fingers crossed.

I'm about to flip them into bud so I will. I also have a thread on this called "Water problems" in the plant problem section with pictures and breakdown up my findings so far. I use a 50$ China Ozone generator in a 50 Gallon rain bucket that holds the RO. Then I use a submersible pump and put the Ozone airstone on the intake of the submersible pump at the bottom of the barrel for 30 minutes. The result alkalinizes the water and takes PH from 6 to 7+, and that PH stays even after the Ozone dissipates (30 minutes). After it dissipates I run it through a garden hose attached "TasePure" RV carbon filter into my tub. So far I fed once on the ebb and flow and it seems to be helping. I have gone from using 15-20ml of 20% ph up to having to use 0.5ml of 80% ph down after adding nutes. So no doubt it is doing something.
