Hi.

Im using a new (cheap) carbon filter fan.. black orchid 4 inch

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01N3C7R4E/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1496257848&sr=8-10&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=black+orchid+fan

And wow is it loud ! So i done a bit of research of how to make it not sound like a jet is taking off in the room, but i didnt have the materials or money after buying a new fan so i had to put it in a cardboard box, the box was then placed in a larger box and i used memory foam clippings to fill in the gaps between both boxes..... reduced sound by 50%

But being in 2 boxes and padding could end up as a fire hazard, .... so do carbon filter fans get hot/cut out ? And if you have any alternative methods to reduce sound please feel free to leave your 2p's worth.

The internal motor is constantly being cooled by the passing air. Before stoners started using them and the Chinese ripped off the design. They were rich people in expensive houses duct fans.

On the low end side. Get your attic sprayed in insulation, it'll cover the fan. Including bathroom fans outlets.

No matter what. Keep a fire extinguisher handy. Not just for the blower. Everything. I keep a small one handy.

Yip I owned one of these some time back it lasted about 5 minutes for the same reason

it was replaced by a standard 6inch/150mm bathroom extract fan for 5quid

attic is no place for a Brit to grow

to many temps swings and the peelers still have FLIR

to my blog: https://www.rollitup.org/Journal/Entry/understanding-f-l-i-r.30122/

good luck

Thanks for the reply, i must of not explained myself well enough, im not growing in a loft, i made a custom box around the fan which has insulation on the outside to control the sound.... funny enough a fire extinguisher came to mind not to long ago, now im going to get one ;)

Folks use them to exhaust 1000 watt light bulbs. The blower is a plug in and forget type part.
After you said that my palm hit my face pretty quickly... just when you cover electrics in shit loads of material that could easily catch fire it makes your ass go 50p 20p 10 reps a second ;)

Big reason why I like LEDs/COBs. It's the HID bulb stuff to watch out for. Everything thing else is low hazard. Especially the blower.
