China is making Cree CXB3590 now

They're running them near max wattage (which is understandable). I have asked whether they can swap the 6 light unit's 600w driver with a HLG-320h for a custom order.
 
Cree have been manufacturing their LEDs in china for the last 6 years haven't they. They must get awesome deals. You can bet they have been watching the market. Look at kingbright, they never stocked the pin heat sinks until they realised a lot of folks were on here using them.
 
I spoke with the guys of Panda Grow like 6 months ago about their 600W CXB3590. Got an offer for 390$ + 100$ shipping. They seemed ok and fast to answer all my questions. I finally didn't bought it and preffered to wait because I couldn't find any feedback from this company so I was a bit afraid. If anyone deal with them, please let us know !
 
Warranties are something to take into consideration as well. If you purchase these unit from a distributor in your region they would more than likely be bound by your country's consumer protection laws. Chinese manufacturers would only take large commercial customers warranty issues into consideration for two reasons. One being repeat business with said large customer. Number two being that a larger company would be more likely to pursue a claim through Chinese commercial court system where under Chinese law they are entitled to include projected retail value in their target market as part of their lawsuit. So on the losing end of a lawsuit they could end up paying the plaintiff the retail value of the faulty goods, ouch.

It is a shame really because quite a few members here have been innovators and have invested time and money into their products. These fixture are capitalising on the legwork of enthusiasts who have an interest and dare I say love for our hobby. It would be nice if as a collective forum we steered new LED initiates into supporting these innovators instead feeding the mass production behemoth that is China.Who I am kidding though, that is not the world in which we live.

We are undoubtedly feeding the Chinese economy whether growers purchase their lighting fixtures through Chinese-based companies like Panda Grow and Glow Technology (check op's link) or through forum-based companies like Northern Grow Lights and Pacific Lighting Concepts. More interestingly is the fact that most forum-based lighting companies currently depend on Chinese-based companies to build their fixtures in order to float a quasi-approachable price towards their targeted customer base (and to fulfill their dreams and ambitions).

Whether growers purchase their grow lights through the companies overseas in China or through forum-based companies that build their fixtures by hand, the Chinese economy is nonetheless receiving a kickback for the components used in the ever common MeanWell+Cree CXB+optics fixture model. This brings into question "how much of the cost of a fixture is going overseas to cover Chinese-related expenses and how many dollars are staying here, in the United States of America?". I understand this a global forum but I live in the USA, so I gotta stand up for my country first and foremost ;). Ideally (and realistically), +50% of the cost of a lighting fixture would stay here in the USA, otherwise, while growers may get a cheaper deal in the short run, a good chunk of the COB-LED grow lighting market profits would end up in the Chinese market, thus undermining the USA workforce and economy in the long run.

In conclusion, this forum has no issues of promoting forum-based lighting companies and I don't think any of us should be worried about Chinese-based companies undermining the efforts that a bunch of us here have been pushing forward for the past years (because there's little evident threat thus far) but instead of a civil war between forum-based companies because the real threat, that has yet to emerge, is the already established, system-backed, hungry lighting fixture companies that already own a majority of the grow lighting industry. They've been running the grow light scene for decades now and surely know of this technology and are bidding their time for a better time, one that profits them the most in both the short and long run.

You raise some interesting points Aquarius Panta, which I would quickly like to touch upon.

With regards to feeding the Chinese economy I kind of see it as a two way street in that a lot of Western big brand businesses Apple, Caterpillar, General motors etc have based a lot of their manufacturing in China in order to drive production costs down and profit margins up....

Now while the above is Great for the American Corps who sold out the locals in order to bolster the war chest....It is not so Great for the Average American they left behind, who ends up having to look for another job. Nor is it a good situation for the Average Chinese worker who is expected to work long hours for a next to nothing slave wage.

So whilst the CEO's of both the Chinese and American corporations stand to make huge profits and become winners, it is all at the expense of the Chinese labourer and the American/Western consumers who end up going into debt whilst simultaneously paying through the nose for over-inflated products.

Pure and simple the reason the situation is bad for the average person in America and China is down to corporate control and coporate greed, because it is the corporations who control the market value of raw materials and stock....We the people are the ones who make the wealth for these bloated Behmoths, yet the company takes 90% to split between 1% and leaves the 10% crumbs for the 99% workforce and then thinks we should be grateful for this fact.

But while we decide condone such behaviour by our continual support of corruption (e.g paying for these goods with our sweat equity) then we are in fact contributing to our own enslavement ironically and economic downturns with regards to low wages lack of jobs etc because we have allowed them to get away with it...The power lies in the hands of the majority but the coporate elite have deceived us into believing it is us who needs them, when in fact it is the other way round.

America and China are very much bedfellows on one level, yet they pretend to be otherwise, to the citizens of America and China...And so to that end we the people continue to give away our power, and allow the global market to be dictacted by them for us.

100% agree with your sentiments, like-minded individuals coming together for the greater good rather than feeding obese conglomorates is definitely where we should be heading :)

Agreed...to an extent you do...

But it's the way the whole thing is set up to make us pay way way more than evil corp purchases raw materials for and pays it's labour force, that's the bit that stinks.

Personally I would be more than happy with the pay more ethos knowing everyone throughout the supply chain is getting a fair deal and being paid a decent wage, rather than this race to the bottom that is currently going on.
 
I found an American to build my lights with Chinese parts. I INsourced the labor and I feel like I was well taken care of.

I was also able to specify the exact combination of components to get the performance I was looking for, this was a great boon to the eventual product.

There's nothing coming from China quite like them, I'm certain of it.

Yup most are, the problem is you have a desperate workforce who will say anything to make the sale...then at the top you have a ruthless management culture of "sales sales sales or its your job on the line" and "now we have made the sale who cares" attitude. It is extremely hard to find a reputable trustworthy company in China, hence why Western firms tend to move their operations out there so they can have total control of the manufacturing/logistical side of their operations rather than solely outsourcing to the Chinese.

Not yet, but you can guarantee that if you have something unique and special the Chinese firms will jump all over your design.

My advice is try to protect any details and key features/components within your design as much as possible (or at least until you are well established) and be very careful where you post info because spies and counterfieters with big budgets are lurking see below lol !!!

I have to say I know of a very reputable trustworthy company in China. It's Kingbrite I got lucky I guess but a lot of members has bought from him with no problems but Mars on the other hand is the worst conniving company ever. Instead of going Cree CXB cob they went with low bin XPE
