What you describe is the money making scam, that many buisnesses contribute too, for that one guy Santa Claus.
And even then, stores now say happy holidays and not merry Christmas. So get pissed at the holiday but not at Christmas. Well I guess you could get mad at Christmas too, not that you need my permision.



I liked harrekins post ^^^ because of his point on them being holidays and not just Christmas. It's a time of year where families set time aside for their relatives. Not everyone that buys pointless crap at malls is buying it for Christmas.

P.s. Many Christian groups are against the idea of buying presents for each other.

I do agree though, it's a huge scam.

Please, why are you starting this again here. Neither side can disprove the other, religion or lack of it needs to stay in people's own minds and out of society. That's wherein all the problems lie.

If neither can disprove the other, which is more valid? Your belief in nothing proves exactly that, and disproves nothing also. What you interpret as "problems" only serves your particular opinion here (if you agree with Obama). You try to bottle up religion as if it's somehow "unsanitary". Nothing could be further from the truth, especially in comparison to the way to the education system tries to sterilize us, and our youth from ideas like faith, creationism, nationalism, and a larger sense of individuality, peace, and community.

Evolution is more valid. Although it may not be 100% solid facts, the theories are based off of facts. Not only that but it is something learned not something you believe because you have been brain washed weekly since you before you were cognitively capable of making your own decisions. This is why I don't fault religious people; I just see myself as better.

You still don't get it...neither side is more valid,it's subjective. However given neither side can disprove the other,both sides should stfu arguing about it.

My family are all artist of different mediums and we all make presents. My dad welds - mom cooks - sister paints and sews even grandma does stained glass and we all just trade. Think I might make my dad an oil rig and grandma a vaporize globe for her volcano. Already getting my christmas shopping started!!

christmas actually deters me from stores. i wont go in a retail store during normal hours for nothing. if i need milk and its christmas time. im hitting up a gas station. i will only grocery shop at krogers (only food no merch) and its usually late at night. fuck going to walmart between thanksgiving and new years. so if it a scam it does the opposite to me. my girlfriend already has any glass she wants so i do occasionally order online for her presents. ill have to take a pics of some shit my dad welded me for christmas. its definately art. crazy sculptures out of motor parts and what not. i look forward to my present every year. im not the religious type, it just gives us a reason to spend time together and make each other cool gifts. maybee watch a christmas comedy or two and eat a shitload of dank food... christmas is the shit

^^^ "Christmas is the shit".... You're not celebrating Christmas, you're celebrating the season (which isn't a bad thing). Celebrating christs birthday and just celebrating with family just to get together are two different things.

Santa clause, Rudolph, grinch, or little elves have nothing to do with christs birth; They have nothing to do with Christmas. But the malls and stores advertise this shit like crazy, but it's for the holidays, not for Christmas.

I don't celebrate Christmas. I would be hard pressed to find something good to say about it. But rather than turning it into a time of resentment and an opportunity to attack my neighbors beliefs, I embrace it as a time to enjoy my family and an opportunity to promote critical thought. The goals may seem similar, but the difference is in being perceived as an arrogant jerk and a thoughtful intellectual. Jerks get remembered for being assholes, intellectuals get remembered for having ideas. Your style is your prerogative, but this is something I have learned in going from a 20y/o atheist to a 30y/o atheist. If progress is your goal, you must wait for insults to be justified. You must separate the chip on your shoulder from the monkey on your neighbors back.

Its just a ripoff of a pagan holiday....nothing more....Of course nowadays they play it to the bleeding female hearts who think everyone needs to get rewards 24x7 for doing shit.

When this country had finally whored out it's last holiday, what did it do? It starting whoring out other country's holidays. Now every time May 5th comes around, everyone turns on circus music and tries to turn this place into a 3rd world country for no good reason other than WalMart wants to sell you more shit you don't need. Besides, I can't think of one reason anyone living in Mexico would want to start a holiday over.

Only believers actually "celebrate" Christmas. Everyone else is just buying each other stuff and then having dinner parties and gift giving exchanges on or around December 25th. Which good for them, everyone should enjoy every day they have, but Christmas has nothing to do with why they are doing what they are doing.
